April 21, 2012 5:19 am This issue helped turn the corner on Bachalo for me. I felt the colouring and the decreased "clutter" in the panels helped separate the characters from the backgrounds more effectively and it was not at all hard to follow, which was my main complaint about previous issues. I also felt that it delivered in explaining Wolverine's rationale for siding with the Avengers of the X-Men; a point that's been unfortunately glossed over in the main series, thus making him seem very disloyal and out of character. And I love that Aaron's finally drawn a link between the Phoenix and Rachel. Hope to see her play a bigger role in all of this because it would almost seem like a big oversight if she didn't.
April 21, 2012 5:09 am Just like with New Avengers... I was totally jipped by the solicit and the cover for this, thinking it related to AvX. Instead, we get a script that seemed pre-written before the crossover, and then 2 or 3 bookend pages to justify the label across the top. Poor form, Marvel. I know your job is to sell books, but letting your customer feel duped will only increase resentment and decrease loyalty.
April 21, 2012 5:06 am My first taste of Noto's art and I loved it. Much more akin to the style set by Opena and Ribic. I'm also a big fan of AoA Iceman and feel they could've dragged this out a couple issues longer to buildup to the kill. It's just so much fun to see a fully realized Omega-level Iceman use his powers. I thought his death seemed a bit too easy. It feels like Remender's quickly killed off or depowered nearly the entire AoA X-Men roster over the past year.
March 29, 2012 5:10 am Nice of Bendis to write his story full of ladies for Cho. That full page spread of Scarlet Witch flying down is gorgeous. I haven't really kept up with Avengers books recently. What's the explanation for Wanda and Vision's reappearances?
March 29, 2012 5:07 am Seems like the bullets in the solicit are for next issue and not this one. Still kinda works, though... The story ties in with the Deathlok Nation arc from UXF. Liking Father and his League of Cyborgs.
March 28, 2012 9:46 pm I'm not very familiar with the Captain Britain/Omniverse mythology so that, plus the change of styles in Tocchini initially made this arc far less enjoyable. However, this issue really changed my mind. This issue was awesome -- from the flashback at the beginning, to the Fantomex-Skinless man torture scenes, to the brilliant swerve at the end. It actually reads as a fantastic one-shot, but I am now curious to re-read the others to see how it all lines up. As always, each "kill" in this series carries major ramifications and I found this one to be almost as impactful as Warren's or kid Apocalypse's. It really justifies the team's ideological motivation to exist, rather than it just seeming like Marvel's cool kill-squad. And major props to Leinil Yu for his covers. These and his recent Hulk covers are images I proudly display for an entire week. I'd love to see that team do a run of interiors on this book in the future. And Dean White... I know colourists usually don't get much attention, but the high quality of his work is really noticeable in comparison to others out there.
February 6, 2012 2:13 am Isn't this the issue he did entirely WHILE DRIVING? I'm tempted to pick this up just to see the results.
