I love Wonder Woman. Straight up and no lies. I love her not because she can beat ass and take names or for perverted/sexist reasons, I love her because of her character. She’s the Captain America of the DC universe, a fish out of water with old world, yet progressive sensibilities. Diana is the first rush into battle (and many times the last to leave the battlefield). She stands up for what is right no matter how unpopular or difficult it may be. And she can rally the troops like no other. Bravery and (com)passion should be the hallmarks of the character.

This issue gives you barely a little taste of Diana. All you really see here is the warrior part. There is a tiny moment with Zola but you must read between the panels to catch (and honestly, I may have read too much into it). I’m curious, if this story wasn’t about Greek gods, could it have featured any character in Diana’s place? The magic 8-ball says highly likely, so I’m not sure if its the best showcase of the character.
None of this is to say though that this is a bad comic. In fact, this is a great comic. The art is fluid and bold. The colors worked seamlessly with the art. The storytelling ability of both is exquisite. The actual plot is perfect for a first installment in a larger epic. All the elements are introduced with out feeling forced and it leaves you wanting the next issue. It’s definitely a pick of the week product.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
