I frickin loved this book... On so many levels I was impressed by the economy with which this book is executed While taking the point it's not super new reader friendly - i.e. where every character explains their backstory, motivation, and relationship to all the other characters as they are introduced to the audience - I enjoyed the restrained script which allowed the art to step forward and be the hero of the book. Want to know more about the story? Come back next month! The art is fantastic. The fact that there is no need for superfluous dialogue on many of the pages reinforces how skilled a storyteller Chiang is. The fight scene in this book was brilliantly executed and speaks volumes about who this WW is. Instead of moving the innocent woman out of path of an oncoming arrow, WW instead decides to hurl herself in its path and defiantly smash the thing to pieces. Right, lets dance. WW then executes a series of tactical manouvers - including an up close and personal head butt no less - to disarm her opponents (couldn't help it, sorry) and save the woman. And best of all - she does not say a word while doing it. This Wonder Woman does not trade witty remarks with her opponents. She is not overcome by her own insecurities or seeking revenge for a shattered childhood. There is no self congratulation. She is simply going to fight with surgical precision, end it quickly, and move on. Now that's bad ass... Overall, a great start. There is obviously more to 'the Gods walk among us' story that will be revealed in time but this is a well written, brilliantly illustrated book with a kick ass lead character. Go get it!
