Paul Cornell is great, I mean, this is a very good first issue with crazy ideas and crazy over the top scenery!

We’re introduced to some members of Stormwatch, a secret group of powerful beings sworn to protect the Earth from apocalyptical threats and they’ve been at it for centuries! Martian Manhunter, The Eminence of Blades and a bunch of others all spreat out and evaluating different threats and anomalies (like the moon growing giant claws, or a dead “Shai-Hulud” in the Hymalayas) while some members try to recruit Apollo who just flat-outs refuses and fights them, he’s no hero. Then Midnighter comes in and offers his help to Apollo…

Ideas were over the top and I loved it. I’m eager to see where this one goes, it got my interest for sure!

Sepulveda’s art is pretty good too, lots of details while keeping a clean look, panels were well paced and never felt out of place. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Midnighter is introduced, it just shows how badass the guy is!

Good first issue and I liked the nod to Demon Knights (another book Paul Cornell is writing). I’ll definetely follow Stormwatch for a while!

  1. One of us must have gotten our hands on the alternate universe copy of the book, since my opinion of the title is completely different. I didn’t buy it at all and, while I had been looking forward to the book I can’t work up enough interest to read a second issue. I love Martian Manhunter, but if I was a new reader (as these books are supposed to attract) I couldn’t care less about any of the team as shown.

I will agree that the art was Very Good, but Average gives the book too much credit.
