This was one of my most anticipated titles of the relaunch. Killing Joke is one of the stories that really got me into comics as a hardcore collector, so I was very intrigued to hear they weren't retconning it to get Barbara back in the tights. I was more than a little disappointed in the way they resolved the issue though. The writing for this issue was a mess, from the oh-so-clever murder on pages 1 and 2, to the simply inane ramblings of Batgirl in action, to the motorcycle ride through the hospital(!?). At the end, the female cop urges Batgirl to "Move! Take him down! What's wrong with you?" while the villain stands mere feet away with a gun pointed directly at her. I can look past a lot of people acting silly in comics, but this was as forced as plot points get. Well, at least they kept their promise about not retconning the Killing Joke story, right? In a world where characters are killed and reborn all the time, it shouldn't take too much effort to come up with some reason, any reason why Batgirl can suddenly walk/fight crime again after 3 years in a wheelchair. The reason is a generic and unexplained miracle? Well, thanks for not even trying, I guess.
