I was looking forward to this book more than any other book this week. After reading it, I must say that it wasn’t the perfection that I was hoping for, but it was, in fact, a very good story.

I really enjoyed the art in this issue. Syaf was, to say the very least, on top of his game with this issue. I hope that he is able to keep up the excellent work. The writing in this book is just what you would expect from Gail Simone…amazingness!

I did have a few issues with this book. For starters, I was not pleased with the lack of explanation about how Barbara regained the use of her legs. Dubbing it a miracle, and nothing more, was an injustice, in my opinion. I will hold some hope that maybe it will be expanded on and explained in a later issue. The way that Simone writes her stories (this one included), she definitely leaves room to go back and expand certain aspects later on. I definitely hope that this aspect gets some more detailed explaining in the future.

I also didn’t like some of Barbara’s dialogue. Her inner monologue was absolute genious, and some of the best writing of the week. With some of the things she said out loud, though, I was left scratching my head. It almost seemed like two different people were talking: one inside her head, and the other through her voice. This didn’t bother me terribly, but it was a little weird.

Finally, this new villain, Mirror, is a very intriguing character. Mirror alone has me looking forward to the next issue to see where Gail will be going from here.

I went in with high expectations, and all of those expectations were met. Gail’s writing is wonderful as always, and the art was excellent. Although this wasn’t my favorite issue this week, they have me excited for the next issue, which is essentially, all that really matters.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I gave the art a 5, but it somehow changed to a 4. It seems as though a lot of people have been having this issue. Hopefully this bug can be fixed soon…
