I race cars, play tennis, and fondle panels, BUT! I have weekends off, and I am my own boss.
All-Star Western #5
By Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Moritat, Gabriel Bautista, & Rob Leigh
You don’t even need to know what they’re talking about because the answer is: “Yes. For anything and everything.”
Aquaman #5
By Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Eber Ferreira, & Rod Reis
This is my favorite page of the week. I love it because it’s simple yet really evocative.
Captain America and Bucky #626
By Ed Brubaker, James Asmus, Francesco Francavilla, & Joe Caramagna
I’m a big fan of Francesco Francavilla but I haven’t been in love with the art on the two issues of this series that he’s done so far. But this two page panel is fantastic.
The Flash #5
By Francis Manapul, Brian Buccellato, & Wes Abbott
The Flash continues to feature the best layouts in comics.
Justice League Dark #5
By Peter Milligan, Mikel Janin, Ulises Arreola, & Rob Leigh
That would be the best realty show of all time.
Fantastic Four #602
By Jonathan Hickman, Barry Kitson, Paul Mounts, & Clayton Cowles
Jonathan Hickman should write Sue Storm forever.

…And Barry Kitson can draw Sue Storm as long as he wants.
After the “pissed off” Sue that Barry Kitson drew a few issues ago, I was compelled to email him to compliment the work. (my first email to an artist) I wrote the email around 10 at night and by the next morning I had a really humble, thankful reply. Between the great work and the attitude, I will seek out his art for a long time.
That Aquaman sequence was insanely gripping! If that didn’t immediately pull you in, wanting to know more, nothing will.
i thought it was trite and harmless. He’s in and out of the desert in under one issue and while there has the most generic “father hallucination of inadequacy” ever committed to paper. what a waste of a character
Fair enough (I enjoyed the issue a ton myself). But the sight of him dropping out of the sky like that didn’t make you turn the next page to see what the heck was going on?
Jeez, I was glad it was only one issue. That’s my favorite thing about Aquaman, this issue in particular–most of the New 52 titles are chronically writing for the trade, but Aquaman seems to be pulling off a nice balancing act of having each issue more or less tell a satisfying story while still building towards something larger. If this was in Justice League or some of the other books, this issue would have just been him falling into the desert and would’ve ended with him taking the first step. Slow burn is okay, but lets hurry it up a bit people!
So who’s winning the one-sided war? Reality Tv fans or serious fiction fans??? I must know!
There are more of the former, but the latter are more cunning. It’s a tough call.
Francavilla’s action scenes in this issue were awesome! I love how kinetic it was, when Cap leapt at fake-Bucky (sorry for the spoiler Gentlemen) and then you turn the page and WHAM, that two-page spread of the impact and the ensuing madness in small panels underneath. B-r-i-l-l-i-a-n-t!
Also, I love how the progress to Aquaman’s fall is demonstrated in those panels. The crossing of the arms in front of his face is just the icing on the cake!
@Conor – the readers of serious fiction win, right? Right??
Find out on Tuesday at 9pm, only on Bravo!
Hickman…Kitson…FTFW.
All Star Western #5 had a funny ending to me.
Hex lights a match and suddenly a massive bat is about to attack them. The last words on the page is Hex saying: “I hate Gotham!”
Not sure why but it made me laugh.
That Aquaman page was great but it really doesn’t need that sound effect!!!! Let the art make the noise!
Agreed.
Third.
Oh… oh my… that Barry Kitson art… wow. I approve.
I love when Sue storm is written as a super-confident, ass-kicking character who knows how to handle herself in any situation. Hickman writes her perfectly.
I can’t bring myself to care how good Aquafresh is no matter who’s writing it and don’t feel like I’m missing out cause I don’t generally care for the character and have ten other books I know I enjoy. So is there anything I should know about Geoff John’s Aquaman run that would make a reader wanna go out and buy it that hasn’t been said in general reviews?
Nope, not if your that unreceptive to the character.
