@Conor That wikipedia entry is horribly unclear. From Hal's page: In the 1996 Final Night miniseries and crossover storyline, Jordan returns to his heroic roots, sacrificing his life to reignite the Sun (which had been extinguished by the Sun-Eater). In the 1999 mini-series Day of Judgment, Jordan becomes the newest incarnation of the Spectre.

I still agree with your point though, about most of those books - I just happen to love Final Night for Hal's big heroic sacrifice. I'm a sucker for a good redemption story. (I was also one of the crazy people who liked Hal's role as the Spectre.)

Wasn't it Day of Judgement where Hal become The Spectre? I think Final Night was his big sacrifice where he gave up his life to reignite the sun.

October 15, 2008 8:30 pm I agree with this article completely. More YA please! (Also, I do not care about Grey's Anatomy, I have no interest in watching it ever, and the fact that it is preventing me from getting more YA just makes me detest it even more.)

I've got to agree - X-Men First Class has consistently been one of my favorite books. And I have to add how much I love the backup stories as well. Just because Jean and Wanda are awesome.

And this book is pure *fun* which is something that is missing from a lot of the other books. There are a lot of serious issues covered, but it always still is an enjoyable read. One of my favorites, sad it isn't ongoing anymore.

Batman the Animated Series is just so amazing. I don't think I would love Gotham in general as much as I do if it wasn't for that show.

Now I need to watch it again.

Yes! Exactly! Some of my favorite issues are the little character moments! Dick and Tim trainsurfing in Nightwing 25! Dick and Babs and that kiss during NML! The Titans just hanging out and bonding! (One of the reasons why NTT was so wonderful.) Bruce finally adopting Dick!

The reason that the first X-Men Manifest Destiny book was my pick of the week a few weeks ago - I love the character moments, I love watching my favorites interact, I love seeing them change. Without that, all you have is a bunch of guys in suits punching each other. It's the characters that make the stories important.

I adore this article. Great job.

@TheNextChampion It's definitely a throw back to it, what with Ollie having to call someone a fascist, yes. And fighting with Hal about politics. And its just as heavy handed. (I love the old GA/GL run, don't get me wrong. But it was not at all subtle, and neither is this.) But Winick writes Hal/Ollie/Dinah really well in this, so if you enjoy that, you'll probably enjoy this issue.

@ohcaroline It's like Winick knew exactly what we needed out of this comic, and gave it to us. Although it would have been even better if a) there was more punching and b) Ollie and Hawkman yelled at each other.

October 1, 2008 11:14 pm @JumpingJupiter Pretty close to it, but the skirt is longer inside.  And unlike the older versions she a) looks close to her age and b) you can't count her ribs.
October 1, 2008 8:20 pm @Tork A Gotham Central series on HBO would be the greatest thing ever.
October 1, 2008 7:53 pm Also, I would totally watch a show where Babs is secretly Veronica Mars. Or Veronica Mars is secretly Babs. That would be fabulous.
