Pick of the Week #406 – All-New X-Men Special #1
October 7, 2013 1:36 pm On the topic of fantasy comics, the first ones that come to mind for me are Jeff Smith's Bone and the old Amythyst, Princess of Gemworld (that is if you can find it). I'm sure someone is going to mention Elfquest as well (I've never read it) but for the listener who was looking to start a new fantasy series, the upcoming series Umbral from Image has some promise.

2013 Eisner Nominatons Announced
April 16, 2013 8:29 pm Graham definitely deserves the nominations. With such a unique voice in comics, I would love to see him walk home with more than one award.

BEDLAM #1
October 30, 2012 10:34 am The NYCC variant was spectacular and it's great to see issue one with one of the greatest solicit blurbs of all time (for me, it jazzed me up in all the right ways).
Looking forward to the issue guys. All the best.

FATALE #9
October 30, 2012 10:32 am Except for issues five and eight which only had letter columns.
I'll admit, issue eight was the first time everything "clicked" for me. The first story, which was pretty hyped up, left me feeling lost in issues and made me think that Brubaker was trying to incorporate such a wide bundle of disparate ideas that it might've read better by leaving them for a later arc. By comparison, this second story has felt a lot smoother but I'd still recommend switching to trades for any new readers.

NYCC 2012: Trailer for ‘Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United’
October 14, 2012 12:19 pm Ouch.
Stilted dialogue and stiff, uninspired animation. Not much to look forward to here.

HALLOWEEN EVE (ONE SHOT – COVER A)
October 10, 2012 12:37 am I really enjoyed Reeder on Madame Xanadu with Wagner and agree that Batwoman was a tough slog (entirely due to the confusing script, no discredit to Reeder at all).
Happily sought this one-shot out on Kickstarter and will be buying it for no other reason than something to store away for a big Wednesday-Hallows-Comic-Eve-Marathon.

REVIVAL CVR A FRISON #1
July 12, 2012 3:13 am This was a book that I didn't even know that I wanted.
Hearing about it awhile ago it seemed more like a zombie horror than a hybrid of BPRD and Fargo. I'm also thankful for the preview during FCBD. Picked up the Craig Thompson cover (which is gorgeous) and hope the series can keep the mysteries aplenty like this first issue.

DOMINIQUE LAVEAU: VOODOO CHILD #1
March 21, 2012 5:32 pm Major disappointment for me. The narration boxes felt overly flowery and took me out of the story time and time again. The frantic running between crises did little to make me care for Dom. This was the book I was MOST excited for from the new Vertigo titles. Sigh. I'll be switching over to Saucer Country for my pulls.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #5
January 23, 2012 6:13 pm My prediction is based solely on the other figures having an established following:
June Moon will somehow get sucked back into Enchantress, the team will dish out punches at magic illusions, Deadman will encourage Moon to SOMEHOW cool down Enchantress' case of witch-crazy, and everyone will emerge victorious as Enchantress comes to with a "what did I do?" expression leaving the reader to expect "uh oh! We can't trust her! She might go Scarlet Witch on us again!". The inevitable team-up ensues and reminds us "Wait, didn't they do with this with the Green Ranger on old school Power Rangers?".
Or Mindwarp dies.
Personally, I could go either way. I'd settle for Xanadu and Constantine slapping the bajeezus out of each other for a trade. I'm enjoying the series, even if it's not the most energetic and emotionally moving thing I've ever read.
Other predictions?
