Having just started reading this title with the previous issue — a somber, Elseworlds-esque tale (or was it?) “team-up” between…

Excited by The Dark Knight and largely ignorant of the Batman universe (I’ve always been more of a Superman guy…

August 12, 2008 9:46 am Well, although I guess it was a tad predictable (the hero deciding he/she can't become no better than the villain), I did think the time travel angle was cool... Like Adrian, I did really prefer Superigrl's future outfit to her current one... and I did still feel some of the story's intended emotional impact (and I didn't even read the whole arc -- I jumped on with Will Pfeifer's issue two months back).  So a good job overall.  I am looking forward to reading this title regularly as the new creative team integrates it into the rest of Supes' world.
August 12, 2008 9:42 am Apparently this series is not long for this world.  Alas.  Just because the show has been cancelled, I don't see why the book has to suffer the same fate -- especially when the Legion is gettin' all kinds of lovin' in this, its anniversary year.  What a slap in the face!  I enjoyed having an all-ages Legion book (other than the Showcase tpbs, of course) that I could read with my kid.  Oh, well...
August 12, 2008 9:41 am Yep, it's that Galaxy Quest.  I cannot wait!  Never give up.....! :-)
August 12, 2008 9:40 am I am getting this because of my newfound love of the original X-Men thanks to X-Men First Class -- still the only X title I read (and I dare call myself a fanboy, I know! <g>).  Also, the art does look beautiful.  I heard, however, that this is really just a Mythos book not branded as such -- so I guess we will not learn anything new about the character.  I was so disappointed with Spider Man Mythos a few summers ago I haven't picked up another.  Here's hoping this will be more pleasant, if only because I know going in what to expect.

Wade -- You echoed my wonderings on this issue exactly.  Although it is a well-paced issue with some neat art (love the tip of the hat to movie Krypton!), and although I appreciate the emotional layers of it, I also wonder if they don't somehow cheapen Thomas Wayne's achivements and legacy... The story, if set in regular continuity, could have the effect of basically subjugating Batman to Superman.  Now, I prefer Supes to Bats generally, but we gotta have them basically as peers.  Oh, well.  It's the first issue of this title I've ever read.  I'm willing to give it a few more tries.

And, yes, I will be going back to read the Loeb/McGuiness stuff in the trades.  I hear that is really good.

July 30, 2008 10:27 am Aargh, DC's canny marketing tie-in plan to feed off of new Bat-readers (such as myself) because of The Dark Knight continues!  If I can restrain myself, I will hold off until a "Joker's Asylum" trade.  I do want to read this story eventually, though.
July 30, 2008 10:25 am Until Cornell was interviewed by the iFanboy crew, I was going to give this a pass.  I will now pick it up in the inevitable (one hopes!) trade.  His enthuisasm for the story seemed sincere and was contagious!
July 30, 2008 10:24 am I am glad this first arc is coming to a close -- if I didn't already have the first several issues and thus feel some weird need to "complete the run," I would drop it.  Project Superpowers has been a surprisngly slow-moving and uninteresting (at times even confusing) story.  Too bad -- I had higher hopes.
July 30, 2008 10:23 am While this book has a clever premise and an intriguing art style, know that it is much more of a police procedural (albeit a tongue-in-cheek one) than any story having much to do with books or library science, despite its setting.  I work for a rare bookseller, so I bought it because of that angle, and was slightly disappointed.  Still, I realize my motive for buying it was probably the exception rather than the rule!  It's an enjoyable read -- just set your expectations appropriately.
July 30, 2008 10:21 am NextChampion -- I agree with you.  It is a beautiful story, both in the sense of very artistically painted and quite movingly told, especially the interaction with Spider-Man.  (I didn't read most of JMS' Spidey, though, so can't compare as you do -- but, based on what I've heard, I suspect you're right!) I read this story in issues and really enjoyed it.
