I’ll try not to compare this to snyder’s run on detective comics because lets face it nothing can really compare to that run. So on it’s on it was very solid issue. I cant say daniel’s writing was phenomenal but it gets the job done. This was my first experience with daniel’s art and I was very impressed although sometimes it was rough around the edges, but i think that’s intentional. The reveal at the end is by far the best part of the issue, not what I was expecting at all. I will be on board for at least another issue or two just to see where this is headed.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. ugh I gave the art a 4 out of 5. I don’t think the new ifanboy site plays very well with google’s chrome browser because this is the 3rd time this has happened to me while writing a review on the new site. So it should be Story 3/5 Art 4/5

  2. What do you think about the violence of this issue? It struck me as pretty gruesome and DEFINITELY not something a parent should pick up for a kid wanting to read about the “new” Batman!

    • Oh completely agree, this is NOT an issue for kids or even young adults for that matter. From an adult perspective I enjoyed it but hopefully the cover keeps parents from picking it up for kids.

    • yet all of the ads are for kids products like legos.

pretty screwed up that Batman comics aren’t for kids anymore. But i guess thats the market. What’s the comics industry going to do when all their mature readers start dying off?

    • I agree, I wouldn’t mind an adult version of the Batman, like a Vertigo version…but I would think the reg titles like Bats and Detective should be aimed at slightly younger audiences. Even if they went with a classic horror technique of implying vs actually SHOWING everything, you know?

Though, you make a good point. The cover does convey the adult content inside

    • How about Batman MAX? DC needs a MAX line to tell stories with their characters that are too adult for the general readership.
