Is it just me, or is the glossy sheen leaving this book rather quickly? Now, honestly, I can’t say this is a bad book. The content of the book is fine, but I think the main character has lost a sense of authenticity that Greg Rucka brought to the table back when he was writing the character.

While the storytelling is still interesting it seems that this new Bat-book is style-over-substance with scenes like showing the fractures and broken bones of beaten thugs in small, x-ray panels, they look interesting but don’t really move the story along.

I think I overlooked the flaws of issue one because of New 52 hype. I don’t think this is going to be the first comic that loses it’s sheen as we move away from the initial issues. Overall, this isn’t a worthless book, but considering how amazing this character used to be means this comic is a bit of a letdown for fans of Rucka’s Detective run.
