New Comics for 04.18.2012 is just saying that NBC needs some shows

Get to pulling this Wednesday’s books, and then let us know what you’re looking forward to most, what you’re dropping, what others should be buying and anything you’re thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check their pull lists out here: Conor, Ron, and Josh.

And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Check out their pull lists: Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike, Chris, Molly, Ryan, Josh, Ben, Ali, Chris, Jeff, Matt and Timmy.

This week Ron Richards has the Pick of the Week!

Bonus Question: Last night I had a vivid dream that Ron, Josh, and I lived together in my apartment. My bedroom had three little beds in it. What would you call the sitcom?

Comments

  1. Canceled :)….kidding. I dunno, “Three’s a Crowd”?

    • That was done already it was a sequel to Three’s Company on ABC.

HMM Conor, Ron & Josh hmm is it too early to say Three (comic) Stooges

      Matthew

  2. Most excited for Batman and Manhattan Projects.

I am three episodes into writing a sitcom called “Just the Three of Us,” which is the first name that springs to mind, but I don’t want to give it up.

  3. I dunno what it would be called, but Black Panther should be in it.

  4. It’s Always Wednesday in San Fransisco.

  5. What a fucking week. 18 books.

  6. Batman, Manhattan Project, AVX

BQ: Damn i can’t think of anything witty to call it… But i do know that Paul Montgomery would be your kooky next door neighbor that always shows up.

    • He and Jimski have an apartment across the hall.

    • I think Paul would have the la-z-boy in the living room (no one can sleep on the couch since it’s the set for the video show – it’s a tax thing).

    • Gordon the Intern busts in all the time, Kramer-style, to raid the fridge.

Ryan’s the kooky scientist down the hall, his hair-brained inventions prompting hilarious misadventures.

Molly’s in a different costume every time she come onscreen.

      Fuck, this thing writes itself.

    • The Next Champion could be the single white female-ish stalker down the hall

  7. Last week was a biggie, only three this week!
The Manhattan Projects, Prophet & Fables.

  8. Looking forward to see where Rachel Rising picks up after how the last issue ended. Also enjoying Irredeemable lately. May be dropping Justice League.

  9. Oh, wow. This is going to be such a good comics week – AVX, Batman, Wolverine and The X-Men, Wonder Woman AND Manhattan Projects?!

BQ: Oh, I’m bad at titles, but let’s see — “Three Guys, No Girls, and a Podcast”, “Who Farted?”, “Night Terrors”, “Fort Fanboy”

  10. I’m so glad I’m reading comics right now. 9 books, and I am looking forward to all of them.

    BQ: All My Fanboys

  11. BPRD: the long death

    Batman
    Justice League
    Wonder Woman

    Manhattan Projects

    Uncanny X-Force

BQ: Three Men and a Hobby? 🙂

  12. Small week but some goodies. Also probably waiting till Thursday AGAIN to get the books cause I’ll be busy this Wednesday.

    Batman
    Manhattan Projects
    Nightwing
    Thunderbolts

    BQ: The Three Stooges?

  13. Excited for Batman, Manhattan Projects and Walking Dead

BQ: i’d call it “Full House” …totally original, never been done before…3 guy friends living in a house and raising kids.

    Josh=Danny
    Ron=Uncle Jessie
    Conor-Uncle Joey

all you need is a catchy intro jingle by the guy who did all the TGIF songs and you’re all set!

  14. BQ: The Conor Kilpatrick Show 🙂 🙂 ha.

  15. This is a tough week on the budget:

    AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #2 (OF 12)
    BATMAN #8
    BIRDS OF PREY #8
    CATWOMAN #8
    IRREDEEMABLE #36
    JUSTICE LEAGUE #8
    ROCKETEER ADVENTURES 2 #2 (OF 4)
    SUPER DINOSAUR #10
    THE AVENGERS #25
    THE DEFENDERS #5
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #24
    WALKING DEAD #96
    WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #9
    WONDER WOMAN #8

Several of these are on the chopping block (Justice League, Defenders, Catwoman) and Avengers is on a temporary reprieve. I just need a Walt Simonson fix.

    BQ: Comic Book Men?

  16. Ooo! No!

    “Panel Boarders.”

8 books this week: AvX, WatX, WW, ASM, JL, T-Bolts, Defenders and Batman. JL is on the chopping block.

  17. Batman
    Justice League
    Nightwing
    Wonder Woman
    Amazing Spider-Man
    AvX
    Wolverine and the X-men
    Punisher
    Uncanny X-Force

Third week of the month is usually my favorite week. So many good comics coming out this week. Most excited about Batman, AvX, WatX, and Uncanny X-Force. Can’t wait till Wednesday.
    BQ: I Love Joshy…?

  18. Light week this week, which means I’ll probably be picking up the Omega Effect crossover issues from last week that I missed.

BQ: Errmm…Adventures in Comic Book Guy’s … Land? Sorry guys, got nothin’. Is there a Tom Katers signal on top of the building?

  19. BQ: “Wheelhouse”. No, wait, “Sphere of Enjoyment”. That’s it!

  20. BQ: Two and a Half Men.

  21. I know it’s already come out – but any any give me their opinions on The Infinite Horizon? I am interested in picking it up since I have a lighter week, but don’t know what the verdict is. Help me out iFanbase.

  22. BQ: Big Bang Theory Except Funny and With Real Comic Fans Not Zany Hipster Sitcom Characters Featuring Middle Management Red Skull

  23. BQ: Since the set-up implies you are all single now, or at least unmarried, and I like stupid puns, I am going to go with “Bachelor Pod”

  24. BQ: Intervention: Conor’s cocaine habit revealed. DUN DUN DUUUUUM!!!

  25. BATMAN #8 – One of the few DC books I’ve been keeping up with. Don’t like it to the same extent as everybody else, not a fan of this Court of Owls stuff at ALL, but it’s still pretty engaging.

Avengers vs X-Men #2 – God, was that first issue boring or what? I’m gone blame the Bendis-speak and the fact that marketing pretty much spoiled all of it months before it hit shelves. This week’s installment has Jason Aaron scripting and hopefully Avengers getting their asses kicked by the X-men, so things are looking up for this event.

Wolverine and the X-Men #9 – WATXM gets dragged into a crossover event! But again, Jason Aaron is talented enough to work the annual summer event plots into his own storylines, to keep up his strong character work and irreverent edge so it never gets too serious or self-important. I actually do want to see what Logan does in this issue as his two teams go to war. Plus, that Chris Bachalo guy, he’s pretty good, too, so I hear.

Manhatten Projects #2 – Hickman is a master of the first issue, but I always find myself dropping his work as it goes on. I hope this isn’t the case again here.

Uncanny X-Force #24 – FINALLY out of that Otherworld crud, we can get back to what this book was good at: darker, violent superhero comics backed by great characterization and awesome artwork. Phil Noto is doing this done-in-one issue here, and just going by the previews he’s a great fit(especially with the always amazing Dean White colors). I’m excited about this book again, and it’s a great feeling.

The Punisher #10 – The Omega Effect crossover continues as we reach the middle chapter. First part was really fun, but I’ll be damned if I knew what the hell all that exposition meant at the end. And, since Mark Waid isn’t here to deliver any of his deft, light touch to the proceedings and the focus on the more one-dimensional Punisher, I expect this issue not to sing with energy the first part had while I hope for a strong conclusion. Just a guess! Prove me wrong, Rucka!

Amazing Spider-Man #684 – This “Ends of the Earth” event hasn’t been firing on all cylinders liked I hoped. It’s taken awhile to get to the actual threat, some of the plot points feel more contrived then usual, and even the big fight scene last issue felt like it was all style with little substance. I’m really hoping this story gets into gear, and quick.

Venom #16 – Venom, on the other hand, has really delivered on the promise the first few issues set up. Rick Remender continues to show his skill at taking 90s concepts like X-Force and Venom, and revitalizing them into quality comics. Flash Thompson is interesting for the first time in…well, maybe ever and Venom is being used in an intelligent new way that’s still has the same core to the character’s original appeal. There’s a big “Savage Six” story coming up, and this issue sparks the prologue, with some wonderful-looking Kev Walker artwork. I’ve got a good feeling about this one!

Prophet #24 – Ok, so they changed the artist. But, going by the preview, it’s a good change! Still think this might read better in trade, though.

Invincible Iron Man #515 – Speaking of trade-waiting, Fraction’s Iron Man will never be mistaken for a fast-paced book. He’s been telling essentially this one long narrative for years now, and with the way the narrative is structured I wouldn’t hold it against anyone to just wait until a few issues come out before reading it again. But, I’m a fan of this series even in monthly installments. Fraction’s got a pitch-perfect handle on Tony Stark, and Larrocoa draws the best Iron Man I’ve ever seen. These two guys have been on this book together since 2008, 50+ issues, longer then any other creative team in Iron Man history, and I think when it’s all said and done they’ll have one of these definitive takes on the character. And it’ll all be trade, so it’ll read better :p

Defenders #5 – Another Fraction book I like nowadays. The first three issues were TERRIBLE, but last issue(#4) was one of the single best comics I’ve read all year. A triumph in single issue comic book construction and character analysis. So, I’m still collecting this book, and with the recent announcement of Jamie McKelvie replacing Dodson(who I was never a fan of) makes me feel a bit happier about keeping this book around on the ol’ pull list.

  26. Avatar photo MadCowDzz (@DarylFritz) says:

If I’m following the AvX story, do I need to pick up WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #9?

  27. This week:

    BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED #3
    GREEN LANTERN CORPS #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE #8

    T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS VOL. 2 #6 (OF 6)
    THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #2

  29. Prophet
    Wolverine and the X Men
    Batman
    Manhattan Projects
    Uncanny X Force
    Fear Agent Vol. 6

BQ: You three run a pool cleaning service by day, and write a comic (which of you writes? draws? inks?) at night…
    it’s called The Splash Page.

  30. Not a light week for me: 14 titles.

Thankfully, at least half of my Marvel titles are subscription, 5 out of 10.

And all of those are $3.99 titles, too.

It’s the only thing that makes getting four or five mutant books affordable.

    8)

BQ: ‘See No, Speak No, Hear No Fear Itself?’

  31. Vatman #8
    Justice League #8
    Supergirl #8
    Wonder Woman #8
    Walking Dead #96
    Amazing Spider-Man #684
    Avengers vs. X-Men #2
    Defenders #5
    Punisher # 10
and maybe X-force…was planning to drop it, but The Dark Angel Sage was one of my favourite stories ever so i’m willing to wait a bit longer and see if it gets better, especially now that Tochinni is gone. I need to stop dropping some books, this is way too much for my little budget.

Oh, and I think i’d cal the show iFanmen

  32. Really excited for WONDER WOMAN #8, and yes BATMAN #8 and AvX #2, also…

    BQ: “Mad Men”

  33. “One eye open” *and Ron made three” “Is it Wednesday yet?” “The Golden (age) boys” “Bagged and Boarded” “The pod caste”

  34. This is a huge week altogether. I feel a bit pulpy, so I’m leaning toward DHP and The Shadow as two titles I’m most excited about. Incredible Hulk has been horrific, so I’ll give it through Stay Angry to redeem itself. Omega Effect takes precedence over AvX, but the latter will get a couple read-throughs too.

    ASM
    Avengers
    AvX
    Batman
Blue Beetle (This has been a decent amount of fun. Takara is perfect for this book.)
    DHP
    Incredible Hulk
    Irredeemable
    Justice League
    Near Death
    Peanuts
    Punisher
    The Shadow
    Steed and Mrs. Peel

I also want to pick up the Shooters GN when I get a chance.

BQ: Waiting on Goldilocks. Or Big Bad Wolf Theory.

  35. BQ: The Scott Chandler Half-Hour

  36. BQ- 3 guys with comics

    Batman-#8
    Nightwing#8
    Batman Beyond Unlimited #3
    AvX #2

Might get Avengers #25 got new avengers tie in found it vary boring so we’ll see.

  37. What happened to Groo Vs. Conan? First Nevsky from IDW disappears and now this? 🙁

    I guess that leaves:

    Batman #8
    Dark Horse Presents #11
    Manhattan Projects #2
    Nightwing #8
    Punisher #10
    Ragemoor #2
    Resident Alien #0
    Shadow #1

Shout-outs to Walking Dead and Fables, which I am collecting in trades because I came in too late and don’t double-up.

Thinking about getting Prophet, someone try to sell me on it.

    • re: Prophet; Future Conan fights aliens, climbs junk pile to space station and wakes up other Future Conans. Also: Has sex with disgusting alien agent.

  38. Another great week of books

    THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #2
    NO PLACE LIKE HOME #3
    PROPHET #24
    THE WALKING DEAD #96
    JUSTICE LEAGUE #8
    BATMAN #8
    WONDER WOMAN #8

BQ-Three guy who love comics and sleep in the same room with no women..Game of Homo’s-Just J/k

  39. Three Men and a Podcast

  40. Three Guys and a Hobby? Hmmm nah…I gotta think on this one…

  41. I’m really looking forward to The Shadow #1. Garth Ennis writing a pulp comic set in the 30’s. Sold. I hope this book gets picked for the light week column so more people check it out.
Bonus question: In honor of The Sentry I’ll go with “Fallen Sons.”

  42. BQ: Simboté

  43. Three little fans. But you need a blonde to play Goldilocks.

  44. BQ: Los Amigo’s Tres. It’s set in Canada, which makes all the sombreros wickedly heavy ’cause it never stops snowing. Also; Pet Moose. And; Ron is a Mountie.

11/12 comics, can’t decide if I wan to get The Shadow. I’m trying to cut back, another monthly ongoing is not what I’m looking for unfortunately.

  45. Punisher 10 already has as many pulls as last month. DD’s be averaging about 900-1000 pulls an issue, how much of a bump is Punisher going to get from this crossover? Avenging Spider-Man got a 200 pull bump, odds of Punisher pulling in about the same?

  46. BQ: Sideburns, Cromedome, and the Face.

  47. AvX, Batman, Justice League, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Uncanny X-Force = One of my bigger weeks.

Also, I just read the first trade of Daredevil and decided I can’t trade-wait that. It is just too much fun. So, I’ll be picking up issues #7-10.1 of that too.

  48. BQ: Three Nerds and A Baby

  49. Avengers VS X-Men #2, Batman #8, Catwoman #8, Justice League #8, Nightwing #8, Red Hood and the Outlaws #8, TMNT Micro Series Leonardo #4, The Amazing Spider-Man #684, The Avengers #25, The Incredible Hulk #7, The Punisher #10, The Walking Dead #96, Uncanny X-Force #24, Venom #16, and Wolverine and the X-Men #9. Sooo many comics. I blame these events.

  50. A big week – although pretty standard for the middle of the month. Looking forward to Batman #8, Rocketeer, Amazing Spider-Man and Wonder Woman #8.

A few titles on the chopping block for me – Justice League and Catwoman particularly. Last issue of Thunder Agents is also helpful as far as keeping the numbers low. This volume didn’t capture me like the last one did at all.

What was the first issue of the DD, SpiderMan and Punisher crossover? Daredevil is on my monthly list and I would like to see the other parts of the story as long as it does not involve too many additions!

    • It’s a three issue crossover. First one was Avenging Spider-Man #5, which came out last week. This week’s issue is Punisher #10, and finally it finishes in next week’s DD.

  51. Eh only wonderwoman for me.

BQ: As for the title. How about Wednesday Heroes? In my sitcom it isn’t one with a laugh o meter. Nor is it one with a handheld camera approach. It would be something like spaced mixed with community with a bit of of real life documentary mixed in. It sort of down to earth that it’s not all happy everything is okay mode. No it is a story of three men who find themselves at a crossroads of life who don’t really know each other. Each one is broke but they all agree to live together to afford rent in an apartment building full of nuts. They bond over their love of comics. The show would be centered on the friendship of these odd ends, dealing with the stigma of stereotypical comic reader, and trying to accomplish something in their lives that eventually turns into ifanboy podcast. But what will the humor come from? Like i said, it will come from a few places, one is the conflicts that arise from living in ridiculously cramped quarters, trying to find a decent comicbook store that isn’t full of freaks, and embarking on epic quests for love, desired comics, and sanity in an insane world. There won’t be lots of slapstick but most of the comedy will also come from the general disappointment each finds in their own quest of life and how they make it through that. Josh is going to be the uptight one who’s grumpiness will be played for laughs but his quest focuses on trying to get a career in comics while trying to balance finding a girlfriend (spoiler he does), Ron will be the slacker with a heart of gold who even though acts like a lazy good for nothing is trying his best to stop being that person (also a running gag is how he “borrows” stuff and how he frantically tries to replace it), Conor will be the mediator in the group who tries to maintain his patience when diffusing difficult situations but in secret the dude has barely any patience as he tries to find that inner peace through the teachings of batman. So yeah, it’s a sweet comedy with a bit of melancholy but as always triumphs over the trials of life. After all, if the FF can overcome galactus surely these guys can succeed at life.

  52. BQ: i dream of fanboy(s). (i think that’s really funny considering conor was dreaming this)

the 3rd week of the month is always my favorite.
JL, batman, wonder woman, ragemoor, punisher, bprd, avx
on the fence about manhatten projects. the first was pretty good. i might hold off.

  53. avx2 batman justice league red hood supergirl uncanny xforce wolvandx wonderwoman xfactor xmen
    bq: comic cons
