Light Week? Try Echoes HC, DC Retroactive: Green Lantern – The 90s, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1

Pull list only big enough to kill a small woodland creature? Looking for something with a bit more heft?

Echoes HC

By Joshua Hale Fialkov & Rahsan Ekedal

If you like a story that’s prodigiously messed up, this is your jam right here. There’s killing and lying and insanity and a deeply terrible glimpse into the dark side of human nature. If you’re interested in exploring the darker side of the human condition, and making dolls from the skin of victims, try Echoes. It’ll remind you what a healthy person you actually are.

DC Retroactive: Green Lantern – The 90s

By Ron Marz & Daryl Banks

Conor may ignore the existence of this book, [I am! – Conor] but for me, my first Green Lantern was Kyle Rayner, and this trip down memory lane is not only welcome but hotly anticipated. Bringing back the original team that co-created Kyle Rayner, the new Green Lantern after Hal Jordan went all Parallax on us, this Retroactive title is bound to be fun.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1

By Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Dan Duncan, Ronda Pattison, & Robbie Robbins

Splinter taught them to be ninja teens (He’s a radical rat!)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines (That’s a fact, Jack!)
Raphael is cool but crude (Gimme a break!)
Michelangelo is a party dude (Party!)

Seriously, though–whatever you think of the toys, cartoons, and movies that were once ubiquitous in pop culture, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird was fun and inventive and it ranks among the most successful indie comics of all time.

  1. The Green Lantern Retroactive 90s is the only one of the Retroactive books I was 100% going to buy. The others, especially 90s Batman have been a pleasant surprise. So pumped to see Banks drawing Kyle again.

  2. Yeah, I think I might shell out four bucks for the greatest of all Green Lanterns.

  3. is tmnt a reprint of the orginal or a brand new #1?

  4. I want to try out TMNT. Dunno if i’ll be able to fully embrace these characters again like when i was a kid, but it could be cool.

I keep getting Echoes and Echo confused just cause of the titles.

  5. I have been hopping back and forth on whether or not to get TMNT. I finally decided to get it, for nostalgia if nothing else, and maybe it’ll turn out to be good too.

  6. Is there a preview of TMNT online somewhere?

    • That’s a great question! I went to IDW’s site to see if it was there, and wouldn’t you know it, the most recent article is from MAY 20TH. There’s no mention of it when I click on the “catalog” link either. You think they’d want to advertise a well known property on their site!

    • CBR has one.

  7. Picked up the 90s GL book since I loved Kyle too. Not my first lantern, but the one I knew best. Also, the 90s Flash book has Wally West, and we might not see him again for some time.

  8. I can’t wait for Ninja Turtles! I loved the 2003 cartoon and I hope this is as good!

  9. Oh man, as soon as I read Connor’s suggestion I couldn’t help but sing the whole song out loud (TURTLE POWER DUDE!!!). Picked.

  10. Kyle Rayner was my first Green lantern too, it was the first trade I bought with my own money. I can’t wait to read the issue.

  11. Echoes was probably my favorite mini of the year. Seriously people, like a fun* mystery? Read Echoes!

    *fun = twisted

  12. Turtle power!!! Can’t wait! I was a little skeptical, but after reading the preview on CBR I’m totally sold! When I saw Eastman was taking over, I had faith…

  13. sweet, i used to love reading those dark TMNT issues

  14. I am so in for TMNT. Been waiting a long time for this and we even used to play the RPG (the kind with dice)

  15. Has anybody got a copy of TMNT? None of the comic shops in my area were able to get it. Delayed?

  16. Jumping all over that shelled out action!
