Light Week? Try X-Men: Schism #2, Joe Hill’s The Cape #1, or Detective Comics #880

Sometimes it's good to think out of the box.  Move away from your comfort zone.  Don't be afraid, it's just this once…

Ron says try:

X-Men: Schism #2

By Jason Aaron and Frank Cho

I haven't been this excited for an X-Men event in years. The first issue came out 2 weeks ago, and if you missed it, I bet you can still find a copy at your local comic shop, but if you can't, you can still easily jump in with this issue and see what the X-Men are up against and start to see what the rift between Cyclops and Wolverine will be.  This is about as good as it gets when it comes to X-Men comics.

Josh says try:

Detective Comics #880

By Scott Snyder, Jock, and Francesco Francavilla

You can follow along with a Joker story right? It's all coming to a head. Too soon if you ask me, but I'll take what I can get. Soon this team will be no more, and something new will start on Batman. But there's still time! If you thought that, for some reason, this Detective Comics run wasn't for you, please go and have a sample before it's gone forever. I mean, look at that cover! Look at it! It just can't miss. So yes, I'm excited.

Paul says try:

Joe Hill's The Cape #1

By Joe Hill, Jason Ciaramella, Zach Howard

Let's get one thing straight, right off the bat. This has nothing to do with that NBC television series. Based on a short story of the same name from Joe Hill's 20th Century Ghosts, The Cape is a four-part limited series about childhood wonder gone bruised and rotten. If you grabbed last year's one-shot, you'll remember Eric never quite stuck the landing into adulthood. Lousy job. No prospects for advancement. Crashing in mom's basement. When the love of his life turns away from him, he finds warmth from the old cape his mom made for him as a boy. And it lifts him up. Inexplicably granted the power of flight, Eric does something truly unexpected. This is a sinister tale of corruptive superpower, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

  1. I like that Joker art. It reminds me of that series of books “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”

  2. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    @dignan17  Hey, you’re right!

  3. @dignan17 @PaulMontgomery No! Those drawings scared me as a child….Then again this Jock cover is doing the exact same thing.

  4. Not much this week thats grabbing me. I think I’ll try X-Men Schism #2, but I’m gutted I didn’t get issue 1 and I don’t think my store will have it (didn’t last time I was there). Never read any X-Men but I’m familiar with the characters and history, most of it anyway.

  5. Hey, try something new – Detective Comics 880

But seriously, The Cape looks pretty awesome, Joe Hill really is an exciting new voice in comics

  6. The Cape one shot was awesome, can’t wait for this mini series

  7. @edward  Who said it had to be new?

Also, Joe Hill has been making comics longer than Scott Snyder if that’s your yardstick.

  8. I’ve liked everything Joe Hill’s done in comics so far and that one-shot last year was awesome. I can’t wait to read the miniseries.
