November 30, 2011 3:25 pm I will never understand rabid fandom. I enjoy IFB, but I'll survive.
November 29, 2011 7:04 am Yeah... but all the enthusiasm in the world can't make up for his artwork.
November 23, 2011 11:17 am When discussing the cost of paper comics versus digital comics, one must take lessons from books versus ebooks. The cost of a comic is much more than just paying the talent, and printing it. There is advertising for instance.
November 22, 2011 6:51 am hey, try reading them as graphic novels. the individual issues lack enough forward momentum to make you want to read more, but if you can read a chunk of them they gain enough critical mass.
November 22, 2011 6:47 am self referential discussion is the death of good podcasts.
November 22, 2011 6:46 am newcomb, again thats not the point. as i said, i dont think that "time" is a significant difference to consider them different things. I have agreed that sometimes it works better than others, but considering what seemed very vocifierous condemnation of both BND and fear itself, i find it a bit hypocritical. Not to mention how many times int he past have comic arcs not ended with one form of reset or "back to the status quo" action. I feel like people are arguing that death through choking is different from death through suffocation- the end result is the same.
November 22, 2011 6:41 am I think equally erroneous is the premise of this article. If you want to claim DJ is great at critiquing covers, for gods sake pick an example he is actually correct in, not merely picking one that has particularly harsh quotables. In this day and age of internet tough guys, I would like to think we are no longer impressed with these vocal "mavericks" who gain more fame for their outspoken opinions than their art.
November 22, 2011 6:32 am I also agree the original is better, for one thing his version seems far too saturated, and painterly compared to the subtlety and smoothness of the first. Frankly it looks like a photoshop gone awry.
November 21, 2011 2:31 pm As an artist myself, i can say with some veracity that the issue is not whether or not we should have more support for artists a la grants or gov't subsidation, what we need is for less terrible artists to flood the job market. Unlike almost any other discipline the unfortunately highly subjective nature of art prevents "natural selection" from extermination otherwise worthless careers. No other field lets people delude themselves for decades upon decades like the arts. so unlike an accounting graduate who realizes they are not meant for it, and go and learn a new trade while still young, artists may banish themselves to poverty until death.
November 21, 2011 11:32 am As always john love your work, you can draw blood from a stone.
