Final Pellet Reviews

Batman: Kinda a weird ending to this. It’s not everyday you see Batman go down on a corpse like that. But as a whole this was a pretty good strip by Azzarello and Risso.

Kamandi: Great final panel in this, and I hope we see more of Kamandi in the future. If anything this strip provided consistant entertainment for twelve weeks.

Superman: Yeah, this definitely was a bit rushed. Although I do like it Batman took out the alien headed for Daily Planet. If you want to re-read this then just look at the strip for the brilliant art of Lee Bermejo.

Deadman: Another issue that kinda ends a bit flat. Still I enjoyed this and made me appreciate Deadman a bit more.

Green Lantern: Sweet ending for Hal and I actually found this to look really good. I wish Quinones could’ve keep this quality up for all the issues.

Supergirl: I didn’t enjoy this as much until the last two panels. Is it weird to say a guy like Palmiotti can write a cute ending? Amanda Conner also should be given a lot of credit for how great this strip was.

Metamorpho: Oh god would I love to see an ongoing series by Gaiman and Allred. This was probably the best use of the concept and it might be some of Allred’s best work. If there is a 2nd Wednesday Comics please let me see this Egyptain tale!

Teen Titans: Started off weak, continued strong, ended really badly. Shame.

Strange Adventures: Again I have to give this strip another chance. This had some really great artwork in it.

Hawkman: Ending was a little flat for me but the artwork was really good.

Metal Men: This ended really strong and Didio should be commended to tell a really good story. I know there are legendary writers/artist doing the backup feature….but let’s give Didio a chance at doing more Metal Men!

Wonder Woman: Wow, this was just as unreadable as the first issue.

Sgt. Rock: This was a nice ending but I wish there was more action involved overall.

The Flash: I’m not gonna lie, Kerschl did kinda did a bit of a lame ending here. Next to the Metamorpho strip this was constantly the best of the best to read. Again if there is another installment, let this team continue on the Flash.

Demon and the Cat: I would’ve love to see more interactions between Catwoman and Etrigan instead of her being brainwashed all the time.

When the first issue came out I believe I stated that this was ‘the greatest idea to ever hit the industry’. Well I still stand by that comment. DC has done something so original and so entertaining that no matter how many times they will continue this series; the original will be one of the best things I’ll ever read in my lifetime. We’re there some bad strips mixed in? Sure. But even a strip like Wonder Woman was inventive and even if it didn’t pan out like it should; I applaud Caldwell for trying. I know people are looking forward to see how this is collected. Well for once I gotta agree with Dan Didio and his mindset for trades. Go get this in their original format! You’ll have much more fun reading this as a newspaper then a book.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

Comments

  1. I may be wrong, but my interpretation of the Batman strip was that the young lady knew Bruce (perhaps intimately) and realized Batman was Bruce after touching his cheek.  I found the kiss somewhat moving.

  2. @stuclach I get the meaning of the strip; but somehow it felt like that kiss went on way to long. It almost looks like he’s kissing a dead body then kissing her while she’s dying.
