Oh man…..Everyone is gonna make fun of me here…I told them I wouldnt read a Jason Aaron book and here I am reading one. The first part of this SI tie in was good, really good. Maybe not POTW material but it was definitely one of the best tie ins for this medicore event. Now you guys can make fun of me:

I’m making this my POTW……

‘Good Lord!’, states a shocked Ination. ‘But you said you hated Black Panther good sir!?’ Well yes and no, I mean he can be a great character if written well, and this is some of the best material I’ve ever read for a C-list hero. The story is so good and rich with so much drama it’s like reading the story 300, but in Africa. Everything from the God worship, to the big fight scene with Panther was so entertaining. Clearly Panther is a bad ass and he took down this huge Skrull with ease….until 2 more big one’s showed up. Oh and no spoilers but let’s just say Wakanda might actually be in huge trouble. Which is weird cause the first part actually made it look like a win here.

My own gripe is with the art. Sometimes it’s sketchy like Yu is on SI…other times it can be clean and detailed. I mean it didnt really ruin my experience with the story, but it definitely makes it a weird artistic choice.

So laugh, laugh that now I am in the pit of no return. I am with the cult of Jason Aaron….now I am tempted to buy Scalped and Ghost Rider…..God help us all.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Like reading 300?!?  SI and the tie-ins I’ve seen have been really disappointing (in my opinion), but after hearing the boys talk about the first issue and your review of this issue I may have to go pick them up.

Do I need any more background than is provided in the basic SI miniseries?  I have never read any Black Panther (and never thought I would).

  2. @stuchlach: Not really…I mean I avoided this title at all cost for the previous 38 issues. It’s only these SI tie-ins that has been really entertaining.

Well it basically is 300 in Africa. Odds are against Wakandians (?), the invaders have better technology, and they have a king that will go to the frontlines. So it’s like 300 but with more green people.

  3. @stuclach

You do not have to have read prior Black Panther to enjoy this, but a basic knowledge of his abilities (from Avengers books dating back to the ’60’s) would enhance the experience. You should pick this up.

  4. Buy Scalped!!! I think that Jason Aaron issued a money-back-guarantee when it first came out if you didn’t like it. The offer might still be on the table so what do you have to lose? In my opinion you only have everything to gain but then again I’m a Jason Aaron Zombie.

  5. Thank you TheNextChampion and coltrane68 for the feedback.  I will try to pick up the first few issues when I get back to the shop (I have very small shop, they might have sold out).

  6. I was able to get issue 40 today (they didn’t have 39) and I agree that this issue was very impressive.  The art style isn’t my favorite, but it really fit the story.  I did get the 300 vibe, though it was a bit toned down in comparison.
I did have one question though.  What is up with Storm?  Did she lose her powers on M-day or she simply not using them for some reason?

  7. @Stuclach: Okay maybe there’s reason to figure out the back issues. lol

I honestly did not notice she didnt use her powers in this. This issue was so good I didnt get the impression Storm was being lazy or not using her powers. Maybe it’s because it would make her look like a god or something? I mean they pray to this Black Panther god….not the hero an actual god…So maybe if she used her powers that would be blasphemy or something? idk I never read this series til now so I cant figure it out.

  8. I think Storm didn’t use her powers, because it wasn’t part of the Panther’s plan. In fact, I think that Black Panther intended to get captured, so that he will get close to the Skrull commanders and have the opportunity to blow them away.

Storm did not lose her powers at M-Day. She used her powers recently in one of the X-Books (I think Uncanny #501).

  9. Ok, I guess we will find out what’s up with Storm in the next issue.
