  1. Tony Stark in comics initially claimed Iron Man was his bodyguard, so that’s how the analogy is made.  I think it is an interesting comparison:

Tony is a self-made genius of a technologist/engineer/inventor who created the Iron Man armor and built his wealth as an industrialist and entrepreneur; Bruce inherited his fortune from his family but became somewhat of an entrepreneur himself through Wayne Industries to maintain his wealth.  Tony is a flawed character, having a superior intellect balanced with vices of women and drink; Bruce is the model for optimal human performace that a person can obtain through training and experience, balanced with an image that is flawed.   The two characters do have very tangible, almost mirror-image similiarities, but Batman does have that dark motivation from his past that Tony Stark lacks as far as depth of character.

  2. @Franktiger – Didn’t Tony inherit is money also? I mean his dad was a wealthy scientist (Howard Hughes type)

  3. @AmirCat – I think that was in Ultimate Iron Man, but not sure.  If so, would make the comparison even stronger, even though Bruce never went to med school like his father.

  4. Tony inherited money as well. I think how much depends on the continuity of the time, but it is very important to the Stark character that he has always had money. Yes, using his genius he built some money to super-lots of money (and then lost it all), but he had a silver spoon in his mouth, that is for certain.
