This book is just a fantastic pulpy romp. The art is absolutely spectacular, and I had never read an Arcadia…

I think that the idea that Warren Ellis phones in all of his superhero work has become viral and is…

January 31, 2010 8:22 pm I actually wasn't crazy about this issue, I think it was the weakest of the series so far.

This was an absolute high point and I am waiting with bated breath for the next issue.

@TNC Go back and read the first 3 issues of Preacher, Fables, Hellboy, etc. and see how much they feel like 60 issue ideas? One of Lemire's strengths is his ability to play with scope, and this feels like it could go in a Ted McKeever-ish way, which is exciting because McKeever was often too much of a mess to actually carry through with good initial ideas.

I guess what I'm actually getting at is that Lemire has been completely successful in everything he's tried, and you have to assume that he knew what he was getting into with a long running monthly title.

November 28, 2009 1:23 am I missed 858 and read both that issue and this one back to back. Holy moley! The page with Bruce is just, that whole scene is, this whole book is wow.
November 27, 2009 11:39 pm @Urthona I wonder the same thing. This is one of the best series Vertigo has going, and it wins Eisners, and it seems like no one is reading it. I just hope that either the trade market for this book is big or the iFanbase isn't an indicator of the audience.
November 27, 2009 10:39 pm This is the kind of book that is McKeevers bread and butter, and he's knocking it out. I miss him so badly on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.
November 27, 2009 10:26 pm I'm out. This was fine but I look at the price tag and I look at the level of enjoyment I got and I just sigh.
November 27, 2009 7:56 pm @BrianBaer I think there may be a little of that, but I think the larger problem is that readers get scared off when they don't understand every little thing. The Wire isn't UNWATCHABLE if you start with season four, but you're going to have a better time if you watch seasons 1-3 first.
November 27, 2009 7:53 pm That this is a hard rather than soft reboot gives me no confidence whatsoever that this book will come out in any kind of way that's timely. That's fine, but I'm going to trade-wait on this because I've been burned by the all-new-all-different-this-time-we-have-our-shit-together Powers thing way too many times. Don't get me wrong, I love this book. I love it, love it, love it, love it. I just feel like they should put it on a "it comes out when it comes out schedule". We know y'all aren't making your money here.
November 27, 2009 6:57 pm As always, I loved this book. For me, this is the best book marvel is putting out, maybe my favorite title from either of the big two. Fraction has moved from apprentice to master on this book, and Larroca's art, which I wasn't initially crazy about, has steadily improved issue by issue. I feel lucky every time this title comes up on my pull list.
