Well, there’s that improper usage of the word “hella”. Nuff said.

I'm glad to hear that most of the eye-rolling aspects of the script that I read about did not actually make it onto the pilot.I was pretty much determined to hate this if it actually aired, but the screencaps you show don't look all that bad. Adriane Palicki actually looks the part and now I'm curious to see what she could've done with the character. Oh well.
I guess there's always the Justice League movie, right? Right?
But, I've never been a big fan of Bendis' superhero work. I think he works best with regular people talking about regular things. This book should not have been that. Ostensibly about the Fall of Asgard and Tony's big idea to resurrect it as some kind of new symbol of hope, there's a lot that could be said here. Focusing everything on gossip & girl talk seems a little like me talking about the awesome pizza I had for lunch while standing in front of the ruins of the Twin Towers. It just seemed out of place for me and did exactly the opposite of what Bendis intended; it took me out of the story AND got me really annoyed.
There was one tiny bright spot in the writing of this issue that I wish was expanded on (and I'm sure is in one of the many Fear Itself tie-ins) and that was the little bit about how the other Avengers forgot that Thor has feelings, too and that this whole event was important to him personally and not just some stunt or another mission for the group. That's the kind of interpersonal stuff I want to hear from my Avengers. Not Spider-Woman and Ms. Marvel going gaga over Thor and Hawkeye.
Hulk #33 is my POTW. Gabe Hardman and Jeff Parker haven't done me wrong yet.
Javier Bardem would be nice, but since he's in The Gunslinger now, I doubt that will happen. I think give Ray Stevenson another shot at it. He was underutilized in War Zone and could really kick ass with a competent director and a good script.
On the concept and director, I like the idea of putting him further along in his mission against crime. I think he could positioned as a more brutal Batman. A Batman that uses guns and kills people. Someone who's past tragedies have put him on this obsessive, single-minded path for justice/revenge that all lines have blurred.
If Joe Wright doesn't mind doing action again (after Hanna) I'd love to see him do something like this. Otherwise, I think Paul Greengrass needs a job.
Someone who's not on the list that needs to be in a good comic book movie is Paul Bettany. If someone came in and took over the Bat-franchise from Chris Nolan after "Rises" I still think a dark tragic take on the Mr. Freeze character, one where his futile mission to save his wife becomes his sole obsession, something that Bruce Wayne can relate to, is possible. And Paul Bettany certainly has the look and the acting chops to get it done.
I hadn't actually thought of Bradley Cooper for The Flash, but that sounds like a good idea. Not Matt Murdock though.
Also, I don't see why Sean Gordon Murphy isn't at least getting an honorable mention for his amazing year on Morrison's Barbarian and his runs on Hellblazer. I think he's got that perfect balance of dark, stark shadowy art and the more stylized, almost cartoony.
Oh, and Ryan Ottley should be on the list every year. He's just consistently great. There is no issue of Invincible that doesn't have at least two panels that make me go "Holy crap!" and that's all because of Ottley's work. And let's not forget about Sea Bear vs. Grizzly Shark.
Hmmm. I dunno if anyone cares about my little opinion here but I'll take a stab at this, too, just because I like making lists:
(In no particular order)
- Invincible
- Thor - Mighty Avenger
- Avengers Academy
- Agents of Atlas (oh wait. go to the next one)
- Hulk
- BPRD (does that count if it's a series of minis?)
- Flash
- Thunderbolts
- Orc Stain
- Choker
Honorable mention goes to Deadpool Team-Up which is basically a series of one shots, but IMO, is one of the most consistently funny comics out there.
I just don't know. I just don't know.
I understand if they're changing the costume to fit the movie world and do something with it that you can't visualize in the comic. Then again, just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. And this is something where they should went for a little tweaking than full-on redesign. My main grip with the costume isn't that it looks like a green anatomy model, but that there's no black in it. I think the costume on Hal alone would look tolerable, but together with the rest of the Corps, who will be in the movie, I just don't know if it looks uniform-like. The original costume, looked more like a uniform than this design, so I worry how they'll make that work. The domino mask and the whited out eyes look fine to me, maybe a little to scowly, but OK. I hope this movie does well, because I want DC to succeed on film with more than just Batman. I'm still cautiously optimistic.
