September 10, 2010 12:34 am Wait a minute... why would Chris Evans be chasing them on a bike anyway? Couldn't he just burst into flames and fly after the bad guys?
August 10, 2010 9:03 am Yeah... Count me among the apparent few who don't think the sky is falling. Comic books are single issues. Conor, if the industry followed your wish, and moved away from single issues, how would you still have the podcast? Would you, Ron, and Josh all go out and buy 3 or 4 graphic novels per week, then choose the best one? Imagine if your purchases overlapped. You'd have about 6 books to talk about. Do you really think companies would be as willing to give Captain Britain, Nova, or Guardians of the Galaxy the same chance to grab hold of a position in the market if they only authorized graphic novel chunks of stories? And, as far as people dipping their feet into the industry, do you really think people would be willing to try a few things for $15 a pop? Just trying 3 new things would cost you almost $50. The comic book industry is already doing it's best to squeeze out readers and prevent a new generation of kids from getting hooked on the stories by having such a high price point for single issues, but eliminating single issues entirely really would be like ordering a coffin and signing a will for the industry. It wouldn't die overnight, and it would make some of the members of the shrinking current market happy, but it would signal the coming death of comic books.
August 5, 2010 9:43 am Powers? Call me skeptical, but I just don't see how the Power Pack family can support a show on TV...
August 4, 2010 2:50 am I believe the replacement for the man without fear should definitely be Madcap. The comic would be great. He would just go around smiling at everyone, dancing, shooting bubbles out of his toy gun, and spreading mayhem.
August 2, 2010 7:16 pm Hm... Someone is going to take over for the man without fear, and news also just leaked that there would be a new Thunderstrike series...
July 22, 2010 7:28 pm Wow. I echo the masses. That 3rd panel nearly made me barf. It does sort of scream out "I don't care enough about this panel to really try to draw it well". Completely mailed in panel.
July 21, 2010 9:07 am ". "So be it" replies Ma Kent. It was at that point that Ma Kent realizes that Ma Kent hadn't been retreating in fear, but had simply been walking backwards to her trusty pick-up truck that she drove to May's house that day. With the grace of a wild prairie dog, Ma Kent reaches to the gun rack in the back of her truck, and pulls out a hunting rifle. "Betsy here has helped me deal with pesky critters on the farm a time or two, and I'm guess'n she'll do my talk'n for me today". May, shocked by the sight of the gun has three heart attacks and several strokes simultaneously and drops to the floor, though does not die. Ma Kent quickly calls the paramedic, then says "I'm sorry, May. But I think this big city book club'n may be a little too much excitement for me. Thank you for the hospitality.". Ma Kent drives the pickup into the sunset, leaving a cloud of dust behind her. THE END
July 21, 2010 8:53 am May backs Ma Kent out the door of her house, wildly swinging the small switchblade. "How dare you call this literary treasure high and mighty," May yelled while continuing to march toward Ma Kent. "Please, May" says Ma Kent "I was only being honest about what I thought about the book". "Honest, smonish" mutters May "you're just simple country bumpkin that should keep her simple mouth shut. You're not in Kansas anymore, deary
July 18, 2010 11:37 am Good show. You guys almost talked about Iron Man a couple of times, but because of interruptions, his origin story never really got discussed. It doesn't seem to fit into the other categories (man out of time/space, born with powers, science accident, revenge, mystical), so I'd add the category of "survival." I think you could also put She-Hulk into this category, as she got her powers from a blood transfusion that was needed to save her life (though I suppose you could say science accident, since the blood did come from Bruce Banner.)
July 15, 2010 9:31 pm @Conor: if you mean that these really were the three best panels, out of all the comics that were published this week, then that does not speak highly for the current state of comics. How sad.
