I bought the first printing back in the day and I think even then it was $4.99 or $5.99, so the price for 64 pages doesnt' seem odd. This book came out around the same time as his first issues of Invisibles came out so it has that kind of vibe, but without the magic (the story is magic, but is not about anything magic). I think this is one of his best books. The combo of his words and Phillip Bonds art is outstanding. Also, it may have had a small print run originally and is probably harder to find in the back issues. I'm actually surprised it took Vertigo this long to reprint it.
As much as I love Stroman's art and have thought that he has evolved tremendously from his work on the original X-Factor run, I have to agree with bluedream that Marvel should and probably will replace Stroman on this book. Just looking at the number of pulls since he started with #33 at 281 pulls the numbers have gone down with every issue. Currently the number of pulls for #36 is at 135 and I doubt they will go up. I can almost bet that this is not a coincidence and that the sales numbers are consistent with this the iFanboy pull numbers. It makes me sad.
Dear Vertigo Comics:
Please ignore Brandon2's comments about canceling this book. He is suffering from horrible delusions from losing Exterminators and American Virgin.
He should be better upon the return of these titles. No one will be better from Un-Men being cancelled.
Thank you.
I think the art was right on. The inking was a little off from Stromans previous work, but his lines and figure work were consistent and in some ways a little forward from his previous work. I thought the art was spectacular and refreshing. I enjoy seeing somewhat abstract art work in mainstream books.
