I was a fan of Resurrection Man the first time around. So I was looking forward to this title’s “resurrection.” (I know, I know… I couldn’t help it.)

And it did not disappoint.

When you see the names Abnett and Lanning on the cover of a book, you’re pretty much guaranteed a good read. Having them return to the character they created just makes it that much better. Because they know Mitch Shelly. They know how he works. They know his secrets. The feel of mystery pulls you throughout. You are put in Mitch’s mind, walking along with him as he asks questions and gets few answers. And it leaves you wanting to know more.

But it’s not just the writing that draws you in. The art hits all the right notes. Dagnino obviously gets this character. His work firmly roots this man with strange abilities in the real world, making the weird seem even weirder by comparison. And Arcas and Leigh join this creative team in hitting this one out of the park.

If you were a fan of the original Resurrection Man series, you will no doubt like the new one. It’s got that old magic with some new twists. And if you weren’t a fan, you will almost certainly be after reading this issue.

(And for the record, I think I’m underselling it!)

  1. Great review. I read the original and liked it, but I think this is even better. It’s more interesting, and DnA have polished their craft so much in the years since the 90s version that a lot of this is very elegant. Looking forward to #2.
