I guess there is where I eat my words now. I thought Sirens wouldn't be only my Bat-book of the month, but my Pick Of The Week period. I was wrong. I liked Detective #854 so much more.
I'm so glad Detective is back. I've been reading it again since before Paul Dini took over. I don't know much about Greg Rucka though because, generally, I'm still a pretty new reader. I have been reading his stuff in Action though, they were mish mosh at best, that's why I speculated that this would probably be the new status quo book I could just wait to come out in hardcover. I was wrong. This is almost just as good as Batman & Robin or Streets Of Gotham. It's way better then Judd Winick's new status quo so far (who the hell wanted more BFTC?!).
The only thing about I didn't like is that I don't know a single thing about any of the characters in this book. Grayson makes an appearance, but to be completely honest with you, I been reading Bruce Wayne's adventures over the years a hell of a lot more then I've been reading Nightwing and I never read anything Titans since Tim Drake's first appearance, so I don't even know Grayson all that well either. The most Dick Grayson as Robin I ever read was All Star!
I don't know anything about the main protagonist neither. I never read 52 so I don't know a damn thing about her other then that she is a lesbian. Is that her house she lives in? I noticed that she has a live-in GF, and her Dad lives there. I have no idea who's home it is, it surely isn't Wayne Manor.
I had no idea who these gang she is investigating is all about but I don't think I was supposed. I can't wait to meet Alice next issue. Very interesting. Much more intrigue then you'll find in Sirens #1. I like it.
I could careless about The Question OR Manhunter. Both of those books should be $2.99 without the extra crap.

The grammatical errors are killing me.
I liked this issue as well but I would have to say I liked Dini on Sirens more just for the reason you mentioned. Without the 52 context, its hard to buy in why Batwoman is so obsessed with some cult.
