I went into this issue ready to make it my last. The end to American Son was not what I had expected it to be and to perfectly honest nothing ever really changes in Spider-Man. One of its charms is that you can pick up Amazing Spidey and pretty much sink right back into his world you remember whenever you read it last. So I thought, “if I stop at 600, what’s the harm?” Parker doesn’t need my money and there are a lot of quality titles that do.

By then end of issue 600 I was knocked off my high horse and simultaneously satisfied and hungry for more. Every story in this issue was well-paced, well-composed, and well-drawn. Even the Stan Lee story for all its corny thought balloons was fun and meta.

This issue exemplifies what makes Spider-Man such a great character and his “neighborhood” in the Marvel Universe its most human and endearing.

As I came to the end of the issue I kept wishing for more pages and as I finished reading the letters pages I conceded my plans to drop this book.

Curse you Spider-Man! I just can’t quit you.
