X-MEN CURSE OF MUTANTS STORM & GAMBIT #1

As an army of vampires descends on San Francisco, the X-Men find themselves in dire straights. The good news is that they may have just discovered a means for stemming the invasion. The bad news? What they need is in the clutches of the vampires themselves. Luckily, the X-Men have two thieves in their employ that may just be able pull off such a heist. Hold on to your wooden stakes, X-Fans…STORM and GAMBIT are in for a bumpy ride!

  1. A mutant heist book could be potentially good, but I don’t know Chuck Kim from Adam. And Bachalo is somehow involved in the art? Hmmm.

  2. I’m solely intrigued and pulled this book because of Bachalo. That, and I like Storm & Gambit together pulling heist against non-glittering vampires.

  3. The alternate cover is the cover I want. Bleh but Midtown is selling it for $7 bucks. Hell no!

  4. hmmm this could be awesome….or the worst idea ever.

    Not sure which

  5. ohhh, Bachalo.. didn’t notice that before now.  I’m hoping for white gutters because that’s the only way I like Bachalo.

  6. worth getting or more ancillary crap that we don’t need?

  7. I want this and I have not read any of the new Xmen title. Actually not an issue of xmen since the Age of Apocalypse

  8. Chris Bachelo? Alright!

    Gambit?………Chris Bachelo? Alright!

  9. @Ironcladmerc Best case scenario is probably that it is both.

  10. You mean Storm is actually going to get a spotlight of some sort in an Xbook?  Craziness!!  I’ve been waiting for years for this to happen outside of the Astonishing books!

  11. I love Storm and the preview looks like some great art for her.  I also dig this type of one shot even if I’m not reading the main X title.  Just some good, thieving fun.

  12. Kind of a crucial plot point to the main storyline. So it depends on how they handle it in the book.

Bachalo… ugh. I strongly dislike his art. I hate his faces so much. The page after the team shows up has to be the worst piece of blobby art I have ever seen, then two pages later very similar blobby art.

The dialogue seemed..um… juvenile. As soon as a character utters "go team jacob" I was done. if it was possible to give this book 0 stars I would have. Worst book I have looked at in three weeks.

  13. @xrcst  Wow, I couldn’t disagree w/ you more.  I guess to each his own.

I LOVED the Bachalo art.  His unique was of drawing these characters brings a freshness to them.  I especially liked his interpretation of Storm’s costume.  It was more "badass".

As far as the "team jacob" line.  That cracked me up!!  C’mon Northstar & Dazzler would definitely be Team Jacob.  Loves it!!

  14. Yea, Bachalo usually one of my most favorite artists, but not his best work here, gets sloppy at times definitely.  His style is a cross between Humberto Ramos and Paco Medina, but unique at the same time.

Storm was voiced ok in this one, but I didn’t like the shallow banter from Emma, don’t really think that’s her style, she knows she’s hot, she doesn’t bother with it.
  15. @zattaric you got to admit the pages I mentioned looked like a 3 year old drew some lines and splotted  some color on it. No detail on the faces at all. Kind of like, hey I need another page in 3 minutes.. go…

  16. I love Bachalo’s art, I really think the pages that looked bad were due to the inker of those specific pages, there were a TON of inkers on this one-shot for some reason.

  17. Makes me sad that the X-Men have fallen on such hard times–they used to be my main squeeze jam. I picked this up purely because of the Bachalo art and was really entertained by the story, which is shocking because the whole vampire chas-grab marvel is trying with the X-books is really grating on me.

Still not into this enough to give any of the current X-vampire books a try though.

Remender may have me back on teh hook with Uncanny X-force though.
