It seems unfair for any artist to have to do a cover for a Bachalo comic.  I thought the cover looked dreadful, and almost didn’t pick it up.  Luckily, I dropped one of the copies on the ground, and looked inside.  It’s not my favorite Bachalo job, but I enjoyed it.  Gambit’s face was different in nearly every panel, and not in a good way.  But the broken panels, the bold color interrupting the dark color palette, and the wham! choom! fzow!s were used sparingly, and effectively.

As for the story, I wasn’t familiar with Chuck Kim, but I enjoyed this side story much more than I’m enjoying the main Curse Of The Mutants book.  I was also surprised to see that the Storm vs. Wolverine’s ethics conversation from the end of Second Coming has come back around already as a plot point.  Kim manages to make it more believable than Fraction, but the interaction still seems forced.
