  1. Download this digitally if you have the means!! Marvel will definitely be looking at the digital sales numbers on this (if you support a strong push to the format, supporting this day and date digital book with your $ is the best way to show marvel’s top brass)

  2. Two Hickman books in one week? I’m sold!

Other then that stupid title, seriously why are they even putting ‘Comics’ in their titles still, I’m excited for this. Hickman should be telling a completely origin Thor story and Ultimate Thor is one of the best things coming from this line.

  3. Previews look great for this book!

  4. Going to try this digitally. Four comics is a simple commitment for me to try it out as well as Marvel.

  5. Hopefully it leads to a Hickman helmed ongoing, only thing in the Ultimate U that could hold a candle to Bendis’ Spidey.

  6. Anyone know if Ultimate Spidey is going to start getting the digital day and date treatment as well?

  7. Not the biggest Hickman fan, but I’ve been known to read his stuff here and there although always dropping it.  Maybe he’ll work out well on a mini then?

  8. i really like ultimate Thor. I have no ideas why

  9. I’ll be going digital on this one.

When o when is Olivia-Newton John going to re-record that song for the Digital age? She’d make Millions off the royalties alone!

  10. I like my comic books in my hands, not on my computer screen. I’ll be supporting the LCS and buying a physical copy.

  11. Where will this be available digitally? On the Marvel iPad app or secondary sellers like graphic.ly too? I’ll totally pick this up on graphic.ly if it’s available there…

  12. Uh so it’s Wednesday and I opened the marvel app on my iPad but not seeing the digital love for ultimate Thor in there. This sucks.

  13. @ thomponlive Yeah, it’s the same with the Justice League Generation Lost day and date release, won’t show up till tonight. Definitely bogus if you ask me. I think it is there way to appeal to comic book retailers by still letting them have it first just slightly. Nonsense. It should be available tuesday night at midnight!

  14. This was my POTW for a couple of reasons:

    1) It’s was wacky and has the potential to even wackier. Nazi’s, Ice Giants, Ice Giant Nazi’s….what more to expect?

    2) This had a fresh feel to it from the other Thor comics coming out. Hickman has a great, unique take on Thor (more so then just because it’s the Ultimate version). Plus on all the other characters too.

    3) Pacheco’s art continues to make this look like a brand new Thor-verse. Characters (other then Thor) look new enough where they are almost completely different characters. In general his art was pretty fantastic too. The opening splash page is more then enough to see just how great he is.

Fun, fun issue all around. Can’t wait to see more of this next month.

    5/5

  15. Is this book “wackier” than the fact Himmler truly interpreted Norse/Austrian mythology and mysticism literally, and actually influenced Hitler’s belief in the occult. The Runes are a big deal in the grand scheme of history, Hickman is brave for playing with such a rich and mired subject. This guy is tops in the field right now and he’s really just getting started.

  16. oh, that Himmler!

I definitely getting this now. The reviews all look good

  17. Saw that this was Hickman and Pacheco, so I figured, why not?

    Damn good impulse buy

  18. Was disappointed the electronic version is the same price as the print version…. Their should be a discount, like 1$ less.

  19. I disagree — even though I understand you’re reasoning. Paper costs bucks. But you’re paying for the convenience of downloading it.

  20. Even though I hope to see cheaper digital downloads for my iPad one day, I will still gladly pay the $4 so my lazy ass doesnt have to leave the couch to get new comics. Also this issue was alot of fun and I have high hopes for the remaining 3. Might just renew my hope for the UU, besides the obvious awesomeness that is Ultimate Spidey

  21. Not feeling Hickman’s work . . . I’ve tried Fantastic Four (the first arc), two issues of his Dark Reign Fantastic Four mini, first two hardcovers of Secret Warriors and this Ultimate Thor. I don’t think I’ve rated any of his stuff much more than average to good with Secret Warriors being my favorite.

I was so ready to be in love with this and I wasn’t.

His writing gets a lot of love on here but I find it a tad boring.

I’m not ready to give up cuz I feel like I’m missing something that everyone else is tuned into.

  22. @ ScorpionMasada you should really read his work on S.H.I.E.L.D. it’s awesome. You get a great feel for his writing style in those it’s what made me go from thinking he was just good to amazing. Although i dont consider myself an idolizing lunatic of his work, I do really enjoy it now. That kind of fanatic hero worship I reserve for anything Robert Kirkman writes :p

  23. Almost picked up Shield. I will definitely try it in hardcover.

I’m even curious about his creator-owned work just cuz I want to be a part of the love fest too.

  24. @ScorpionMasada-Maybe it is just not your cup of tea.  Don’t force yourself, you will only end up being disappointed that you spent the cash in the end.

  25. I hear you, MisterJ, but good writing is my cup of tea.

When people I respect write about Hickman’s big, crazy ideas and his storytelling talent and how awesome his stuff is I just have to assume I’m missing something.

  26. POTW, hands down. This was simply awesome, can’t wait for the next issue!

  27. I don’t want to derail this, but the argument of “paying for the convenience of downloading it” is complete bullshit. It’s 100 times more convenient for them to not have to print it, store it, and ship it than it is for me to be able to download it.

I digress though, I loved this comic. It was fun, and kind of Mignola-esque, which I wasn’t anticipating.

  28. 1st is this happening before the start of the ultimates(the braddock family and thor and donald blake part)? 2nd does loki look like maryln manson without make up or am i crazy?

  29. This was GREAT!!! it took me back to 2001/ 2002 when the Ultimate Universe was fresh and new and not being fucked up. Boot Millar off Utimate Avengers and give it to Hickman right now. Just like a few years ago when Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk came out and I said that was what an Ultimate Comic should be, that’s what this was too. I loved the hell out of it

  30. @jmack It claims to be the present. I’m struggling to figure out how this fits into continuity after Loeb’s Ultimates/Ultimatum mucked up so much of the Ultimate Universe. But this is the best characterisation OF Thor I’ve read in the Ultimate Universe since the original runs of Ultimates. Hickman definitely gets the character.

  31. @jmack/theswordisdrawn: The stuff where Thor is in the facility, with Donald Blake seems to take place before Ultimates 1. Millar mentioned that he did have a mental breakdown before he fully realized he was the real God of Thunder. So it looks like Hickman is going to explore that time frame for his origin.

  32. The fact that one of the first pages in Dr. Braddock’s lab contains a panel from the Hulk’s NYC rampage, I’m guessing it takes place some time after that.

  33. but what about loki looking like a no make up maryln mansion? thanx words, champion and drake.

  34. @drakedangerz I think that Hulk thing your talking about is Bryan Hitch’s represention of Hulk vs. Spider-Man from Ultimate Marvel Team Up 2-3; the Hitch panel itself is from Ultimates issue 2 where Fury is talking to Banner and mentions the Hulk tearing up the pier in a fight with Spider-Man.
