  1. Im unsure about this one. Is this Bruce or Dick? Is this canon?

  2. @DavidCW: These are questions that don’t matter.

  3. You know what’s funny? Neal Adams stated in an interview that Frank Miller, of all people, was going to write this. Then he couldn’t do it so Adams just decided to write it himself.

Has he written anything else before? We all know his fantastic artwork, but I don’t know about his writing credentials.

  4. @conor Considering the price of comics, yes it does. I asked cause I wanted to know.

  5. Adams wrote a lot of his Deadman run, and I think he plotted some of his Marvel work. I’m pretty sure he also wrote a fair amount of his Continuity Comics/advertising output.

  6. sounds like something I’ve read before, Batman getting teamed up on by his rogues gallery, still I like the art I’ve seen so far, wanna look at it before I pull it.

  7. Is calling something a "masterpiece" before one issue even drops a little bit … much?

  8. @DavidCW-Perhaps Conor’s words could be better phrased as, ‘Those questions should be ancillary to your enjoyment of the work.’

  9. @MisterJ: Or they don’t matter. I like the way I phrased it.

  10. @Conor-Fine, but your way was a subjective standard that really had a conclusive objectivity to it that can be found wrong, as DavidCW pointed out.  But if that is what you want, okay.

  11. @MisterJ: It is what I want. I have not been shy about making my feelings known about "is it in continuity?" questions in the past. I’ve been talking about it on here for years.

  12. God damn people… This is Neal Adams doing Batman in 2010!!! So pumped for this!

  13. @Conor. I get what youre saying man, Ill buy something even if its not in continuity, as long as its good, but in this case youre just coming off as aloof and kind of an a$$. I just wanted some info on what it was about cause everything Ive seen so far has been vague.

  14. @DavidCW: I think we can assume it’s Bruce. And I think we can assume it’s a timeless Batman story, i.e. set in some undetermined point in the timeline. Like a BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL story.

  15. @conor hey. Who’s female hand was sticking out of that crate in the Battle For the Cowl poster?

That being said: This is not in continuinuty. It’s a totally self-contained Bruce as Batman story. POW. Def.

  16. The art looks a little weird in places, but Adams does look like he’s delivering–it’s going to be the writing that either makes or breaks this book for me.

  17. Neal Adams back drawing Batman!  It’s rare that I look this forward to a comic (my early favorite for POTW).  Hope it delivers, but I would still pick this one up purely for nostalgia value.  Surprised this does not have more pulls.  Mr. Adams may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I don’t think it gets much better than this.  Cheers.

  18. I almost always enjoy these out of continuity/Timeless Batman stories.  It’s going to be tough, but I think I need to wait for the collected edition on this.

  19. I’ve never been too big into continuity.  After I’ve seen it change so much, I really just focus on the art and story.

  20. Holy Crap there are thought balloons in the preview for this!

  21. This would of been so much better without any words. Neal did himself no favors be scripting this. You can clearly tell that this was intended to be scripted by Miller (as originally revealed to be desired by Adams) and , maybe, it might of worked too. But Neal doing a Miller-like impression doesn’t do much for me.

  22. Yeah, the writing on this really BROKE this book. Not even Miller doing his entertaining dialogue would not have saved the writing, and the whole plot is just a mess.

  23. Dropped faster than Sentry: The fallen Sun.

    OhyesIdid.

  24. I think I’m the only person on the internet that liked this book..

  25. 25 pages of insanity, 4 pages of sketches, and a pin-up.  Worth 4 bucks?  I dunno, but this was the weirdest Batman story I’ve ever read.  I’m glad I picked up this issue, but I sure can’t take 11 more issues of whatever this was.

  26. This was barely readable. I respect and admire Adams as much as any true fanboy, but I almost couldn’t finish this. It read like a dream. A really bad dream.

A reunion between Adams and O’Neil would’ve been something special. This will be quickly forgotten. Hopefully.

  27. Anything I say would just repeat what others are saying. Did not enjoy this, couldn’t finish it. Instant 1/5 Sorry, Neal!

  28. Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

No good, huh? I’m shocked. From what I saw in the preview I thought I was looking at top-shelf stuff. I really liked the batman’s costume, and his inner-monologue during the gun-battle on top of the train effectively narrated the story.

  29. This was terrible. I’ve never given a book one star before. I’m also wondering how this book is getting a 2.7, it should be much lower. Much like Chris Claremont, Adams has gone off the deep end.

  30. the colors really did the art a disservice in this issue. The inked pages that we’d all been seeing as previews look so much better than the average looking final result. Really disappointing on many levels.

  31. This was not Neal Adams at his best and I wish Miller had written the story; but it’s still better than half the stuff out there artwise. I enjoyed this because it was Neal Adams and I am glad he is doing interiors.

  32. The mean person in me wants more people to discuss how awful this was. I’m sorry, Neal!

  33. Hey JonJames, I liked it too!  But I think the forum is going to be pretty lonely next month.  Just you n’ me n’ Amircat.

I didn’t know the whole Frank Miller thing till now, but when I read it I thought, wow, this sounds a lot like All Star B&RTBW.  I hope the people who liked All Star give this book a shot.  I like these books where Bruce is kind of a d*ck.  Because he would be.

  34. This was the worst book I’ve read this year.

  35. I didn’t want to Poo-Poo this book, but "Poo-Poo!"
