The Best of the Week in Panels – 06.13.2012

I went to the police, like a good American. These two boys were brought to trial. The judge sentenced them to three years in prison, and suspended the sentence. Suspended sentence! They went free that very day! I stood in the courtroom like a fool, and those two bastards, they smiled at me. Then I said to my wife, “For justice, we must go to Don Panels.”

The Amazing Spider-Man #687

By Dan Slott, Stefano Caselli, Frank Martin, & Joe Caramagna

Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli have leveled up the intensity in The Amazing Spider-Man with the recent “Ends of The Earth” storyline and this is just a taste of the goodness.  Caselli makes a the spider-faceoff between Spider-Man and Spider-Woman fluid and dynamic, you can almost hear the punches.

Comments

  1. Steve Holt! Priceless!
I may give Planetoid a shot after that panel. The “Week in Panels” featuring the first page of Fury Max #1 is what convinced me to pick that book up.

  2. I love Jason’s reaction in the Batman and Robin panel. That’s exactly how you react to a cocky, pain in the ass 10 year old.

    • And he would know. Interestingly, the comics community used to react to cocky, pain in the ass 10-year-olds by voting to have the Joker kill them. Now, we like them for most popular new character of the decade. Weird, huh?

    • Jason Todd was like 15 – 16 when he died. I think all of us can forgive someone like Damian. He’s a kid and his attitude mostly comes from his desire to be respected by his peers. I mean no one can top Damian’s superiority complex.

    • I’d vote to have Damian killed if it gave Time back the Pixie boots.

  3. Oh man, I love Frazer Irving so much.

    • Yeah, I never understood what the big deal was with Frasier Irving until I picked up Shade. Now, I totally get it.

    • I kind of hated Irving after all the delays on B&R, but after his stellar work on Xombie and this amazing issue of Shade (although there really haven’t been any issues of Shade that I found lacking) I’m beginning to see where all the love comes from.

  4. Nicely done with the quote Conor.
I would have expected the more obvious “I believe in panels. Panels is where I make my fortune.”

  5. I want Amanda Conner to draw my life.

  6. steve holt is a bastard. he doesn’t even know who his own father is.

  7. Planetoid was really, really good.

That Demon Knights page is so absurd I might just pick it up again.

  8. Between this & Covers of the Week I may just have to lie down – too much awesome.

  9. I love all the faces of the former rabins but I think the best panel in BATMAN and ROBIN #10 SPOILER was after the fight between Damian and Tim and Damian says you need to accespect me as who I am a wayne and a robin.

also love the DICK vs JASON ravialy

    and TIM VS DAMIAN

wish step was there but ok.

  10. That first page of Demon Knights had me rolling. This book is outstanding.

  11. Wow. Even greater selections than usual this week. Impossible to pick just one.

That Caselli panel is wonderful. Is he the one who used to do Outsiders in the early 200’s? The hair and fluidity of movement certainly looks familiar.

  12. That panel from Spider-Men #1 is ridiculous. Look at the way he’s contorted to show his butt, and if he had boobs they’d be all up in your face.

    😛

    I’m kidding of course.

  13. Sadly Damien is saying what Bruce expects to do to them also. He really is the son of Bruce Wayne.

    • What? You think Batman is going to defeat each one of the former Robins someday, and take something important from them? How do you figure that?

  14. I was really thinking when I read it that the panel from X-Force would be in here. It was my favorite moment of the week.

  15. I love that panel from Batman and Robin….then again EVERYTHING about Batman and Robin this week was full of things to love. But that panel of the guys reacting to Damian’s ultimatum showed Gleason’s range of emotions. Jason thinks it’s stupid, Dick is concerned, and Tim has a ‘The fuck?’ type of face. Great detail there.

Also, everything about Silk Spectre are amazing. Seriously, one of the best looking titles of the year for me.

  16. Steve Holt!

I preferred the “family resemblance” panel from Silk Spectre #1. “O NO SHE DIUNT!”

  17. All good books as well as panels, thats pretty much my pull this week aside from Spider-Men, I can’t speak for that books story and don’t plan on reading it but agree, her art is excellent and will check out the next thing she does.

  18. I flipped through the Silk Spectre issue in the store. Gorgeous as ever. Sometimes being a trade-waiter kills me.

  19. “At this point in time, Amanda Conner is probably the best artist in comics in terms of character acting.”

I’d say that title goes to Terry Moore. But Conner is right up there.

  20. All of Amanda Connor’s women have pretty much the same face. They all have the exact same nose.

  21. really love sara pichelli’s art even though i have not picked up spider-men and really have to jump back into batman and robin in fact i have to get back into BATMAN.. College is holding me back
