iFanboy Upstarts: Stephane Perger

Some comic creators rise through the ranks on the indie scene, while others pop up out of nowhere. Nowhere sometimes means another field like animation or magazine illustration, while in some cases it’s from foreign comics. In this week’s iFanboy Upstarts, we target French artist Stephane Perger who is making his interior comics debut next month with Marvel’s Avengers Origins: Vision.

Casual fans might say Perger is new to comics since he’s only done a handful of Marvel covers to date, but in his native France he’s revered as a top creator. He got his start in 1997 with a story in Faille Temporelle #10 and went on to win an award for young talent at Angoulême. Months later he was handpicked by L’Association to contribute to the Comix 2000 anthology and went on to do his first graphic novel 11, Rue des Templiers. After doing more work, Perger found a hit with writer Tarket on the espionage series Sir Arthur Benton and later on Sequana with Leo Henry. He recently began work at Marvel, doing covers for Black Widow, FF and Thor: Heaven & Earth. From the looks of it he will have his choice of where he works in the future, I just hope it means some English translations of his BD work.

Here’s a look at his upcoming Avengers Origins: Vision interiors as well as work overseas. Thanks to Travel Foreman for bringing his work to my attention!

  1. Um. Woah. I’m usually not into the more painterly style, but this is absolutely fantastic. Can’t wait to see more from him.

  2. She has a really cool, painted art style to her work.

I might give that Vision one-shot a try now because the previews for it have looked so good.

  3. @TNC – *He*

But man from those covers alone i want that BD story to be translated, i could go for a good espionage thriller comic.

  4. Really good artist. I was looking forward to the vision comic before but now I’m hanging out to read it.

  5. Can’t wait for this awesome display of coolness!
