iFanboy Upstarts: Matt Timson

In the wide world of comics, the industry lives and breathes off new talent and new directions that keep the medium thriving. Sometimes they come out of the blue with a single issue that changes it all, while others simmer in the background waiting for a chance on the frontlines. In this week's iFanboy Upstarts, we focus in on British artist Matt Timson (@matt_timson).

Timson has been working in comics going all the way back to 2003, but it wasn't until his debut on the last Impaler series at Top Cow that he popped up on my radar… but boy, did he. Mixing digitally rendered work akin to Brandon Peterson with a splattery flourish that Alex Maleev fans would appreciate, Matt Timson has only done a handful of US comics besides Impaler, such as some issues of The Darkness and a story in Popgun, but he's furiously working away on a secret project as we speak. Although his next project is under wraps, he is working on a creator-owned series on the side called LogicEngine.  Back on June 16th, Timson tweeted about a contract sitting on his desk. I might be reading too much into it, but seeing DC, Marvel or Top Cow swooping Timson up with exclusive agreement wouldn't surprise me.

Here's a sampling of Timson's work. Fore more, you can visit his website and blog. Top Cow released the full first issue of Impaler free online at Newsarama.com, and Timson himself did a breakdown of his process over at ComicMonsters.com awhile back.
