This book is..okay, but there are a enough annoying moments that it never becomes the fun and entertaining book that it’s trying to be. The biggest one of those things is Starfire. When I first saw the teams roster I thought that Jason Todd and Roy Harper were a great match, both being the black sheep of their respective crime fighting families, but Starfire was a bit of a wild card. I wondered why she was there at all. Well wonder no more, she’s there to wear more and more revealing outfits and so Jason and Roy can have sex with something.

Now I have not read a single issue of Teen Titans but if I did I have a feeling I’d be pissed right now. Starfire is portrayed here as a woman who has little to no long term memory and has casual sex with any man in the immediate vicinity. Not only does she have no memory of her past with the Titans but she becomes bored and irritated when Roy brings them up. Jason is the only character with anything interesting going on I will pick up the next issue solely because I’m interested in his story.

The art is quite nice and I really enjoyed the opening action scene, though no so much the gratuitous Starfire ass shots (though I’ve harped (ha, get it?) on that long enough). I like Red Hood’s new design with two exceptions, the bat logo on his chest and his face showing behind his mask. Scott Lobdell has made it clear that this is a Jason who wants nothing to do with Batman and his legacy. Why does he wear a bat logo on his chest? I feel as if this book would have felt more at home among among the “Edge” books then the “Bat” books. Also the fact that his facial features come through his mask may make the acting easier, but comes of as creepy, off putting and not the least bit cool (and in a book that’s entire point is being cool and fun that’s not a good thing).

If you’re looking for a fun time and don’t mind a little gratuitous T and A then go for it. If you’re looking for a deep look and some psychologically damaged characters with a darkly fun twist ala Secret Six, you’re probably not gonna find it here

Story: 3 - Good
