August 28, 2010 11:52 am The "don't buy them and they'll lower their prices" argument just doesn't work for me. It's not like they're trying to take advantage of us. They're trying to make money so they can keep in business and continue making comics, so they have to charge that much.  The $3.99 price sucks, but it's a necessary evil if you want to continue reading comics and they want to continue publishing them.
June 24, 2010 4:48 pm I live in a small town in Missouri and I go to a comic book shop called Comic Relief that is closer to St. Louis. It's about a half hour drive from where I live. Comic Relief decided to expand and open up a store in the small town I live in, because they knew they had a decent amount of customers there. The problem that ended up happening was that most of their customers commute into the city anyways and decided to continue going to the shop they had been using for years. They were never able to really get new customers, and the old customers they had that did not commute just was not enough. I feel like this is a problem that a lot of people opening up shops in small town face.
May 31, 2010 9:41 pm That Dynamo 5 set would be really awesome. I read through the first volume, but as I am currently out of work, was never able to continue on to the other ones. It was a real shame.
May 17, 2010 11:02 am I really like the black and white reprints. My only problem, and I know this is your bread and butter Tom, but I have trouble reading some of the older 60s and early 70s comics. I wish they would reprint some more recent ones from the mid-to-late 70s and early 80s. That's why I love the X-Men Essentials, even if I don't really care for the X-Men as much as say Batman or Green Lantern, they have a large chunk of their stories that go all the way up to the late 80s when the storytelling began to be more and more like it is today. It makes it difficult to read a lot of the Marvel Essentials, because they feel like they're all written by Stan Lee, who I think is fabulous for coming up with these concepts, but whose writing I can never really get into. It's why I completely skipped ovr the reprints of his X-Men Run. If there were black and white reprints of the late 70s Green Lantern, Flash, or Batman in black and white, I'd rush out and buy them in a second.
April 1, 2010 12:39 am I don't know why, but I think the voicemail shows are always my favorite, and this was no different. So good.

December 22, 2009 12:32 pm So, the first trailer was really bad, but this one has definitely piqued my interest. I notice that Nic Cage is in it though. I hope we get Good Cage (Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas) and not Bad Cage (most of the movies he's been in for the last 5-10 years.)

Wow, lots of Batman this week. Probably picking up all 5 of those and Unwritten, although I might not get the Doc Savage one. We'll see. Loving all the other Batman books though (although still trying to warm up to Batgirl.) Also considering jumping on to Phonogram. These issues are fairly self contained, right?

BQ: I always try and get myself 1 book and 2 CDs every paycheck if I can afford it. Most recently I got Scott 4 by Scott Walker and Histoire de Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg and the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel. I also splurged a little more and picked up the new DS game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.Wow. Seeing this written out, I think I may have spent too much money.

But I'm worth it.

haha

November 2, 2009 4:28 pm I had not heard anything about Stumptown before this, but I'm fairly excited about it now. Pretty light week besides that though. Picking up Sweet Tooth and Unknown: Devil Made Flesh.
