I suppose the relationship itself never feels preachy, it's more Teddy's sexuality that is used as an argument. The relationship, as you say, feels authentic. Hulkling's discussion with one of the Sons of the Serpent felt very preachy to me. I wish it would have been left out, Heinberg seemed to handle their relationship pretty deftly after that encounter: quietly and subtly. Leaving Teddy's dialogue out (or writing a different dialogue) would have been more in line with Heinberg's treatment of Billy and Teddy relationship and sexuality throughout the rest of the book. Glad you're enjoying this.
