What happens: Kraven, recently resurrected, puts his lion vest back on and lets the Kravinoffs hear it for having mistakenly killed the wrong spider (Peter’s clone, Kaine). Madame Web’s monologue continues in this issue: “The web is life. In breaking it, the Kravinoffs have rattled all of nature.” It’s not only the Spider family who is affected by the Kravinoff's business, nature is rattling all over Manhattan: two security guards are killed by lions who’ve escaped their cage at the zoo, Mary Jane and Harry watch rats pour onto the streets, a gorilla appears outside of Norah Winters’s window, birds are picking out eyeballs, and a jaguar tries to get into an SUV. The issue ends with Peter crawling out of the grave where Kaine buried him and took the spider suit in order to dupe the Kravinoffs. Peter searches the cemetery for Kaine until he finds his clone in a coffin. Resting on the coffin is the black and white spider suit and a note written in blood that reads: hunt me.
The Good: I’ve really been enjoying the story. I don’t pick up ASM on a regular basis but usually will if Joe Kelly’s on deck. His Rhino issue (ASM 617) was easily one of my favourite issues of Amazing and one of my favourite single issues of the year so far. Lark and Guadiano have been solid for the past two issues. Although I enjoyed Marco Checchetto’s work, which made up the bulk of the main story in this issue, the last few pages done by Lark and Guadiano made me wish they had penciled the entire issue. I like how the colouring on this story reflects how dark things have become since the “The Grim Hunt” took off in issue 634. 634 began in Parker’s apartment and most of the action took place in between the buildings that make up Manhattan’s skyline. The initial bright colours have been replaced with darker tones as the story sinks into graveyards and death. Since “The Grim Hunt” began ASM has been bumped up to $3.99. More and more books are selling for 3.99 and not all of them earn the higher price point. However, I feel with the two back-ups Marvel is offering more for that extra dollar - this is a thick book. I haven’t read the Kraven back-up but the Stan Lee/ Marcos Martin story is a lot of fun.
The Bad: Kelly messes around with time in the last few panels of the book, flashing back to events that occur before Kaine is killed. These events themselves are not presented in a linear way and without a clear visual clue it took me a while to figure out who was who and what was happening when. Differentiating between Peter and Kaine has been difficult for me throughout this story. This is a minor complaint because, after all, Kaine is a copy of Peter and the extreme similarity is necessary when trying to have readers believe that Spider-Man has been killed at the end of issue 635. Although irrelevant to the storytelling, I hated both covers for this issue. I took the Mike Fyles cover (which I now realize does not have the Amazing Spider-Man banner) over the, what is to me, hideous Kraven cover by Esad Ribic .
Conclusion: Another solid issue in what has been a great story so far. I’m looking forward to 637. I’ve been enjoying Amazing so much that I might keep pulling it and try out the first issue of “One Moment in Time”.

Apologies for the brutal formatting. I thought I’d be able to seperate paragraphs.
I agree the cover is hideous. It looks like a bad G.I. Joe action figure pose.
Good review, I enjoyed teh issue like you. Joe Kelly is my favorite Spider-Man writer. Kraven on the cover looks like Danny Trejo from "Desperado" and "Machete".
The cover isn’t one of mine. It keeps turning up credited to me. I did the variant for that issue. Mike Fyles.
Hi Mike, sorry to slam you for something you weren’t responsible for. My apologies also for communicating my dislike for these covers in such a disrespectful and unqualified manner. Best,
Joshua
