November 19, 2012 8:22 pm I like that conor decided what my post was about. "costs" for making a book at the big two are irrelevant. We're talking about billion dollar corporations with comic publishing as a tiny minuscule part of it. Neither DC nor Marvel is having trouble paying its people (or the long list of other things you listed) they're charging an extra book because as Mr. Bendis put it "comic readers don't vote with their wallet" and "they cost what they cost". Saga being $2.99 has nothing to with it being a "cheaper" book to make (a claim that has not in any been substantiated). It has to do with Vaughn saying he wasn't going to do the book unless it was permanently at $2.99 for its run.
November 19, 2012 2:02 pm I work for an LCS but had to take a look at my comic budget recently. I spend about $84 a month of floppy issue comics plus whatever I happen to find in the store or any trades I want to get. Almost all that $84 is spent on $2.99 books. The only $3.99 books I get are IDW's TMNT, Ult Spider-Man, Action, and Batman. I was getting GI Combat for the Unknown Soldier story but couldn't justify 4 dollars for half a book. I've always voted with my wallet though, and when DC brought out the new 52 primarily at $2.99 I almost left Marvel entirely. Brian Michael Bendis once said in an interview on Word Balloon that readers "don't vote with their wallets" so he's not worried about price. I believe if I'm paying an extra dollar the book should be longer and better. With books out there like Saga that are mandated at $2.99 there is little excuse for the big two to be charging $3.99 for 20 page cape and spandex comics.
November 18, 2012 11:49 am Again another "where do I start" with a $50-$70 book at the helm. This is ridiculous because if you're trying to learn about and get introduced to a character $50-$70 is insane. Wolverine/Doop and Wolvy & the X-men 17 are great starting places for this character. There is never any reason (and the Lois Lane Where do I Start is another good example) to pay over fifty bucks to "get started" or learn about a character. I've stopped linking these articles to my customers as I cannot provide the products at a reasonable price.
October 29, 2012 9:16 pm is the 2.99 price drop permanent or is it just for the .1 issue?
October 29, 2012 2:59 pm Any time someone walks in with a kid wanting to get them into comics Tiny Titans goes right into their hands.
October 22, 2012 12:18 pm I didn't take that ad as being against women, but against posers. As someone who works in an LCS though this mentality is there now. We do not purchase comics but pass along the phone numbers of people who do. One of these buyers is a woman who runs a antique toy/comic shop locally. More than once I've heard "so girls buy comic books now huh?" and I have to point out I'm generally the only man working in the store. My boss and all the behind the scenes (ordering, dealing with Diamond etc) is done by women.
October 11, 2012 5:03 pm Mirror joker is the variant (and the better cover)
October 10, 2012 8:46 am Good thing this a tie-in then? My issue is this isn't the cover most of us are getting.
September 21, 2012 11:02 am That black&white Fables cover is nice to bad it's not the one that's on the comic.
September 18, 2012 10:53 am Yeah I picked up the earliest issues my LCS had (12-17) based on the glowing reviews I see here. Man oh man is this series great. I always thought Daredevil was okay though I never actively followed him. Now I foaming at the mouth for now C'MON VOLUME 2 TRADE PAPERBACK!
