Name: DING b@T

Bio: Thanks to DCs 'not a reboot' I have been introduced to the world of comic book reading. It's... interesting. Here I hope to type things out loud so that they make more sense to me. Because I'm discovering that there's penty of things in comic land that make me confused. Like Batman's ability to be in five places at once...

June 6, 2013 5:27 am Really enjoyed this. Quirky and clever and whimsical, it opened up new possibilities for the DCU while providing plenty of story punch. There were ideas going on here, and it was a joy to read.
May 29, 2013 4:34 am Are they so insecure about sales that they HAVE to include Batman in every team book? I was really hoping this could be a completely different group of characters because very few things are surviving outside of the Bat family.
May 11, 2013 2:19 am I'm another person person who doesn't know what to think of this. It could be awesome, and I'm really excited to see someone play with the ideas of Wonder Woman in a serious way (which was the word he used - serious). But I also read the first half of his Action comics run. That was... not good. Not for me, anyways. He went big and I had trouble following along which was disappointing. I really don't want this to be like that. But strangling Hercules with your chains (is that Diana or her mum?) then busting free - that's a pretty good start.
May 11, 2013 2:00 am I saw Ming-Na in the photo, that's what actually got me thinking. She's the + 1 or Zoe of the group, the female who kicks arse. But it got me thinking about Firefly and Buffy et al. This probably won't be the full cast anyway. I seriously doubt they only have 6 reoccurring characters. That's interesting on the race binary thing. I suppose that's how racism works - us vs them. And 'black and white' is as simple as it gets symbolically. You don't want any shades getting in the way of your prejudice because then it just complicates things. At uni I had to do some research on the way 'whiteness' was constructed and it was fascinating to see how, back in the day in America, the Irish had to work hard to convince people they were 'white'. I guess that's where that binary is in full force. Bizarre, interesting and depressing.
May 10, 2013 9:36 pm Does Whedon ever get called on that? Going through university he was the darling of critics everywhere because of Buffy et al and his mainstream look at sexual politics but I never heard those same critics question his inability to cast more than one non-white actor or actress per show. He seems to get a free pass on representation from critics while I've seen fans bend themselves like a pretzel trying to make excuses to justify it.
May 10, 2013 9:02 pm Damn. Looking at that photo... the son of Coul has charisma. THAT is his super power.
April 15, 2013 7:41 pm If they were going to release comic books into Disney environments they would have to be special made-to-order pre-approved childrens material (ala the animated series tie ins). Your average comic book is not kid friendly anymore and if any particular issue somehow is, the one following probably won't be. Disney would have to set up a new comic censor division to avoid any potential scandals. Or they'd just censor from the top and the product you receive at your LCS would quickly start turning Disney. Would you accept the Disney-fication of your monthly comics if it meant getting sales in Disneyland? I don't think many LCS readers would. Maybe Silver Age collections?
April 15, 2013 7:29 pm I don't think most people care enough to remember it.
April 12, 2013 10:44 pm Yeah, that's how I read it. He also arcs up when Heist asks him about 'people like you' breeding. PRIV takes it a certain way, which I thought was telling... I'm thinking there's a Robot royal scandal in the works some time in the future. His wife got pregnant while he was having trouble doing the deed. I reckon that would fit right into the soap opera-iness of Saga and the whole family politics theme.
March 14, 2013 9:22 pm I'm familiar with the Chinese version of the Drunken Master but has there ever been a Japanese equivalent? Or is Nocenti crossing the martial art streams?
