Name: Ed L.

Bio: Been reading comics since '85. Took like a ten-year break during college (where the only thing I read were Batman GNs and Preacher.) Currently back to reading. Reading mostly Marvel stuff (from the Silver Age thanks to Marvel's Essentials trades and new post-Civil War stuff) and a bunch of indy stuff. Will flesh this profile out later.

Supremely fun! You can't go wrong with Alan Davis. Seeing Steve kick those troll's asses was ridiculous fun! That last panel of him picking up the shield with a smirk was pure gold! The colors were a bit too surreal and dark for this type of over-the-top Nine Realms story, but not enough to make me hate it. POTW for me.

June 3, 2010 6:59 pm I think it's great that they're trying to update the Marvel "Monsterverse" and will be checking this out. We'll see where things lead.

I like it! Someone suggested on another forum that they maybe etch a faint wing pattern to the sides of the helmet (no white paint). That way it won't look as lame in a long shot, but in close-up shots they'd be noticeable. I like that suggestion, it'll be a nod to the original costume without looking silly.

Also, everyone keeps making the joke that since it's blue all the enemies would target him easily! Well, shit think about that. Steve Rogers with his enhanced reflexes and strength would welcome that. While the enemies are targeting him, Steve's fellow soldiers are targeting the enemy! Now, I'll wonder if they'll work in a cameo with the Howling Commandos into the movie...

This was awesome! Mars, Nova, espionage and the Serpent Crown! I'm digging these Heroic Age storylines so far. MY POTW.

Regarding, Deodato's art. Please don't let the rest of the comments devolve into YET ANOTHER "why are superheroes drawn so muscularly, the artist must obviously have self-esteem issues" tirade.

I'm very unfamiliar with the DC universe, but I enjoyed this and last issue a lot. I thought the story on both were really straightforward. Hell, I even thought of Zatanna when reading of Annie and my only knowledge of Zatanna was last week's debut of her new series and a graphic novel I read some years ago. Nice to know I wasn't alone on that. Loved the far future stuff with the Archivist being taken over by Bruce's consciousness (is that what happened?) Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to look up who Doctor Hunter is.

Great stuff. A solid 4/5.

May 20, 2010 1:09 am Not being a big DC guy, I had no idea who any of these characters were besides Zatanna. I really liked this, little mystery building up into something that could end up being bad for Zatanna. Great art and it's $2.99. No complaints. Looking forward to the next issue.
May 20, 2010 12:09 am I enjoyed it! I had to google to find out who those kids were at the beginning and it doesn't bother me at all that it's from some direct-to-DVD cartoon. Like all alternate future stories, you're just gonna have to accept it. Some of the dialog was atrocious, but the story "feels" like something that could have been written in the late 80s/early 90s (but that's because Kang shows up.) I'm not a big fan of JRJR or Janson, but Dean White's color art made this book palatable. Overall a fun book!
