Name: Ed L.

Bio: Been reading comics since '85. Took like a ten-year break during college (where the only thing I read were Batman GNs and Preacher.) Currently back to reading. Reading mostly Marvel stuff (from the Silver Age thanks to Marvel's Essentials trades and new post-Civil War stuff) and a bunch of indy stuff. Will flesh this profile out later.

June 24, 2010 2:06 pm Fun issue. I've always liked time travel stories in the Marvel U. If you take one second to really think about them though, you realize they don't make a lick of sense but they can be fun. Again Dean White's coloring makes JRJR's ugly faces easier on the eyes. And I agree with the above commenter, I never liked Janson's inks on JRJR. Tom Palmer is a better fit. Especially on a superhero book like this one. Also, I can see the tribute in Noh-Varr's costume to the original Captain Marvel Kree uniform/costume, but it's ugly as sin.

I'm assuming the Sandman issues available thru the app will be the ones featuring the new digital coloring available on the Absolute Sandman editions. The Sandman trades currently available feature the old-school coloring.

I still think these comics are priced for regular comics readers and not priced to attract new readers. It'll be interesting to see if they ever release sales figures for these digital comics.

Seriously, WTF is up with Vertigo and their cheap paper quality? Been picking this and Preacher in HC and the thin-ass newsprint paper makes me feel kinda ripped-off (even though I've enjoyed the damned thing.) Still picking this up though!

June 17, 2010 2:39 am Lemire's art reminds me of Kent Williams who did a lot of stuff for Epic Comics which I read as a kid. Artists like Bill Sienkiewicz, Jon J. Muth, John Bolton and Mike Mignola really helped me appreciate the art in comics. Sometimes a thick brush stroke can create mood and atmosphere or just express emotion better than words can and artists like Lemire really show that. I'm really glad I listened to the iFanboy guys and picked this up last Fall. All three stories are great, but the 2nd story is especially wonderful and had me (yes) in tears.
June 10, 2010 9:26 pm I was kinda hesitant when they announced Pasqual as the artist for Thor, but seeing this now I'm excited!
June 10, 2010 9:15 pm The hardcover collection for that Young Avengers collection retails for $30. While the TPB retails for $35, I don't get it.

This book has been truly beatiful (story and artwise) but when the eventual trade appears Vertigo should put a disclaimer in the introduction that the book should probably not be read in one sitting because it can be too emotionally taxing. (I'm only partially serious.)

Really loving Dave Stewart's coloring on this series.

June 7, 2010 4:56 pm Being a fan of the Marvel "monsterverse" and 80s era X-Men, I'll definitely give this shot.  Going in with low expectations and giving it a story arc to win me over. From the preview, I like the art.
