@stulach: Don't you know how it works in comics? Sales = quality. Fanboys are such a rational and discerning lot that they cut right through any sort of hype and gimmickry and always manage to only support those books with strong art and storytelling. They'd never just buy things based on say, habit, a banner on the front or the fact that it's a tie-in. Clearly we just like bad comics.

I never thought of the fact that gaining the others' personality traits would result in a dilution of their own individual strengths, but that's a good call. I'm just not sure what that "Overide:X" is in reference to. I didn't pick up the Hawkman Special that caused all that to-do about a month ago, either, so that's got me curious, as well.

September 18, 2008 8:12 pm Another great issue. Loved the clever Escher type sequence with the Trinity and I'm curious what's the deal with Despero. The second half looks like it will end up addressing some current continuity, to boot, which is interesting. On the art side, Norton and Ordway complement each other quite well - they should absolutely be on a monthly (how about a second JSA title?). Also, this Lee triptych looks stronger than usual - I'm not a huge fan of his these days but these stand out in my eyes.
September 10, 2008 6:39 am Anybody know if there are any extras in this one? I have the full series and was thinking of just getting it bound but if there's some quality bonus material and they look committed to the full four volumes, I could be tempted to pick this up.
September 8, 2008 7:01 pm Yeah, I thought the opening sequence in the first issue looked great and then the parts with Renee didn't look nearly as sharp - I'm not sure who inked what but it was a marked difference in my eyes.

@stuclach: Good call - this really is what a JLA book should be. I feel like it wasn't that long ago that the vast majority of titles were focused on telling their own story with occasional nods to the greater universe, but it seems to be the other way around now. I love that I can enjoy this book without ever worrying about what else is going on - I wish more major titles were the same way.

@leland222: I'm glad to hear somebody vouch for the book's accessibility - I think it's the perfect title for somebody that's been hesitant about jumping into the DCU.

@CAM: It's good to know I'm not alone in my growing love for this title - I think it started slow but is now starting to really pay off for those of us that stuck around.

I look forward to this book more and more as the weeks go on. This is exactly what I want to read right now: a well-crafted superhero story that takes advantage of the scope of the DCU and its continuity instead of being a slave to it, with beautiful art to match. I realize the fanboy masses have deemed this "UNIMPORTANT" as they did with Brave & the Bold (another wonderful book) but it's a total breath of fresh air in the middle of the world of cross-overs and writing for the trade that we now live in.

And Goody-Goody Deathstroke is the best.

@rift1128: Definitely go back and grab issue 31 - not only is it the starting point for this arc but does a nice job recapping the entire series thus far. If you read some of the comments here for the past few issues, you'll see some people who hopped on board there and have had no issue getting caught up. It's well worth it.

I'm pleased to report that pulls for 32 were up from 31 based on nothing more than positive word of mouth - no crossovers, stunts, etc. just quality comics. Give yourself a round of applause. Let's see if we can't continue the trend and get this book to the point where even the Marvel PR Podcast that is iFanboy (oh snap) will be forced to discuss it! Last issue not only had Director Bones but one of the greatest scenes in recent memory - Kate meets with La Dama and gets the classic "Can I offer you a drink?" line that heroes always get and refuse. Not Kate. She not only takes the drink but with an answer of "Absolutely." That's what I'm talking about people - Kate is a hero that would take the drink! Iron Man aside, where else are you gonna get that? Nowhere, that's where. Take the drink that is Manhunter #33 you teetotalers!

July 11, 2008 9:09 pm Great ending to a great run. Interesting preview at the end, too, considering no writer has been announced after the Dixon arc. In that case, I guess Jurgens makes the most sense to take over?
July 11, 2008 9:04 pm DC, please give Paul Dini a full-time job creating Batman villains. Thank you.
