October 14, 2012 5:06 pm I also think that this is a story about Thomas first. That character fascinates me. He should be a goon, but he's more complex than what is actually written. Any theories on the twin from the beginning coming back?
October 14, 2012 5:04 pm So much happens to the story in each issue - I can only imagine where we'll end up in two months. Chris is 14, angry and over the top rebellious. It's where we all were, and it's where he needs to be. There wasn't really room to defect from Slate and J2 amicably. It also was going to take a push no less tragic than his mother's death. At times I'm put off by how the NAC is a cookie cutter perceived fundamentalist group, but I think that's balanced by the extend of wickedness Slate and his machine embody. It's a story of balanced extremes that I hope doesn't become too one-sided on either side of the religion coin.
October 1, 2012 12:37 pm I jumped on with New52. I was a kid in the early 90s, and my first trip of intention to the comic book shop was stunted by the confusion of 3 Superman titles, and that whole triangle number fiasco. I was also intimidated by the unknowable amount of back-story that at least appeared necessary to enjoying and understanding the current books. It was overwhelming enough that I didn't buy anything that day, and it's taken DC until last year to actually reel me in. I just checked comixology - my pull list is now around 19-20 titles. I got back in because the reboot made the whole universe as accessible as possible to someone like me, and now I'm way into the deep end. I've also gone back into a lot of old universe material. I'm somewhere in the middle of a digital collection of most major story arcs between IC and CIE. I've also scavenged Blackest Night, Brightest Day and Flashpoint books with nearly all crossover titles. Don't take this as a means of bragging, I only offer it as evidence that I probably exist in the "ideal new market" category for DC. That being said, I've looked into Marvel NOW, thinking it might be a good entry time. Most of the Marvel universe is still foreign to me, and that it's simply a restructuring doesn't really excite me.
September 30, 2012 12:08 pm I really enjoyed this story. It particularly stood out amongst this miserable St Bastion story. <>
September 15, 2012 9:59 am Did anyone else think that Jason Todd was drawn in a way that looks a lot like Gordon-Leavitt, particularly in the second to last page? Maybe at least in his 3rd Rock but short hair days?
September 9, 2012 10:12 pm It punched me in the stomach on page one. It's been 10 minutes since I finished it, and there's still half a tear clinging to my eye. Bravo, Geoff.
September 9, 2012 9:13 pm Anyone know if Winick is on for good, or just the #0? He's definitely a leg up over Nocenti, but I felt like this story would have been better served flushed out over a few issues. Winick hinted at some character depth and plot complexity in a few scenes that he just didn't have the space to fully explore.
September 4, 2012 8:14 pm I'm not sure if I've seen any real character substance in at least 6 books - it should be easy to fix once they decide to hire a decent writer. I'm hoping that happens soon. These writers have done a good job of making themselves look bad, it will only get worse by comparison once Geoff Johns is also writing the character in JLA next spring.
September 3, 2012 10:03 pm Can someone help me clarify something here? Lucy shows up, and seems to be a fun loving, not yet settled down younger sister of Lois. I'm trying to reconcile that with the recent Action Comics arc, where Susie (I believe) is introduced as Lois' niece. My understanding has been that AC is taking place ~5 years before Superman. Basically, I'm trying to make Lucy/Susie make sense.
August 21, 2012 12:37 pm Incidentally, this and Green Arrow are the two books that I've been ready to drop. Then I hear that there's a cross over coming up between the two. That news irritated me.
