After reading this, I’m convinced that Jason Aaron can find a unique and fresh way to look into any character. Thanos is a character that I’ve never saw as being much more than pure evil. However, this book has begun treading a new path for him….one that shows how his obsession with death began, and how that he maybe didn’t start out quite as bad as we may think.
I found the opening scene with his mother and the scalpel to be especially powerful, and his subsequent visit to his mother in later years recounting his dreams to be…chilling. The little hints of foreshadowing such as him sketching a dead animal were nice as well.
Bianchi’s art was certainly solid throughout the book. There’s a part of me that would loved to have seen what Aaron’s Thor co-conspirator Ribic could have done with this…but not to the point that I would want him off of Thor GOT to do so.
All in all, I loved this first issue, and think that it is going to add tons of depth to one of Marvel’s greatest and soon to be in the spotlight villains.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
