Didn’t dig it. At all.

Why do this? Why the need to EXPLAIN everything about Thanos and WHY he is who he is?

I know, it’s an origin story it’s supposed to tell THIS story, but man, what a clunker for me.

Thanos as a kid? Just did not scan.

Plus, the story on its own merits was chock full of cliches.

Story: 2 - Average

  1. Marvel did this for the same reason they did WOLVERINE: ORIGINS–they wanted to take ownership over the origin of their character before it was established by Hollywood.

    • I get it, but jeez, this was not good IMHO.

    • “–they wanted to take ownership over the origin of their character before it was established by Hollywood.”

I find that origin point kinda ironic since that Wolverine movie mostly ignored the book, his origin, and botched a ton of X-Men mythology. Why the heck would a movie have to explain Thanos childhood? Doesn’t seem revelant.

  2. I know it was “just” the first issue…but I feel so jipped. What a waste of my money.

  3. I don’t particularly WANT to be sympathetic to a death-worshipping space god, and therein lies my problem here. Magento, Doom, hell even Batroc, you want them to win one once in a while. But Thanos? I don’t want to see his evil grin and his desire to kill everything and feel even a hint of “oh he was bullied at school. Can someone give him a hug?”. I just want to watch Thor smash him in the face with a hammer over and over and smile about it. So yeah, kinda thinking I won’t pick up the rest of the series.

I felt the art was pretty good though. I’d have given it a 4.
