Well, it took longer to get back to this than I had hoped. I was busy writing a freaking book about Action #1. Anyway, I really liked this book. I thought it was realistic, action packed, and had some surprises.

The first story tells how Corporal Rock becomes Sgt. Rock. I liked the characters, especially the late Sgt. Torisi. I was surprised the book included a super-powered character - I did not expect that. It was an interesting way to contrast the solders' power (via training and weapons) over "normal" people with the meta's power over the solders. The art was good - better than average, realistic with good coloring.

The second story was also good. Even though it was a take on something that's been presented before, the action, dialogue, and characterization were really good. The art was different than the first story but also good. It reminded me of the art in older war comics I read as a kid, but it was neater and better.

Both stories made me want more, so I'll be back for issue 2. I think this book is in for an uphill battle, though, due to the $3.99 price tag and the niche appeal. I hope it makes it. There aren't a lot of realistic military comics out there. DC should provide some free to troops to increase interest.
