I must start this review by saying I have never read anything Green Lantern related before this. I have some general knowledge of who Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Oa and Kilowog are but aside from that, nada.

So how did a newcomer to the GL mythos liked this book? Well, honestly, it was fun.

Sure, I didn’t understood why Sinestro was given back the GL ring by the guardians or why Hal Jordan did lose his ring in the first place, but I could still enjoy the action and get a general grasp of what was going on. I particularly enjoyed the Hal Jordan parts where his absence from Earth gets back at him and hits him hard, real hard! There was action, there was drama and there was humour mixed in this #1 issue and the cliffhanger ending just roused me for picking up issue #2.

The art on this title was good if not great, the color palette was vibrant and strong and really gave the impression of depth to the panels.

All in all, I enjoyed this issue though I would have appreciated a “previously, on Green Lantern” recap prior to reading this. Guess I’ll have to wikipedia it instead…
