Holy Epic battle of life and death Batman! you should of been there. I loved this issue, this whole event actually and though I probably waited way too long for this it was worth it. I once told myself I can’t be buying so many comics my whole life, so I decided that after blackest night I was not going to buy anymore super hero comics. Oh how naive I was, like the drug addict that says just this bag and I will stop…

Today a great man died, Jaime Escalante, the movie Stand and Deliver was based on him. He is a real hero. I like stories about heroes in real life and on paper, so I am onboard with brightest day its exactly what I need right now. Blackest Night was dark enough to be DeathMetal (lol) but so heroic that it could also be Adventure Metal. I am currently facing so much adversity that I HAVE to be a Hero and this comic really reached out to me. I felt like I was there and I knew exactly where I was standing, among Heroes. The blackest night is that moment when you have to choose between life or death (not always in the literal sense of course) when something bad happens do you choose Hope or Despair. I felt motivated to move onward and upward and it was like most comics I read… therapy. Writing these reviews is also therapy and Wednesday is something I can look forward to.

So enough about my currently kaput life… Lets talk about what made this so awesome. Some complain that it was too simple but thats what I liked about it. I have been watching super friends with my three year old (no i am not trying to brainwash him into liking super heroes he genuinely loves it) and though its overly simple it is still GOOD, like morally good, promoting friendship and teamwork. This kinda felt like super friends but times a 100, there is a beautiful spread that shows just how awesome it is to have good friends. There is genius in simplicity, ask Jonathan Kent the man who inspired Superman. The art was beautiful every panel was perfect. Reis, Albert, Prado, Sinclair
awesome teamwork your like the Super art Friends! GATEFOLD!

Some also are complaining about how this has so many loose ends and is a reboot or that too many things were glossed over. Thats life people (although I really want to know more about the Indigo tribe and decipher their language) you don’t figure everything out and this is comics, some stories never end. I don’t think he was rushed I think he scrutinized it to reveal enough to keep you interested in GL and GLC, I trust Geoff Johns he delivered with all the prophecies and did hint at a lot of thing that were answered here; if you have been following GL and GLC. Which was consistently above average story and art. Yeah he dragged it out and promised Blackest Night since Sinestro Corps. And I was along for the whole ride. I think the reason Geoff Johns didn’t reveal too much is because he is going to tie all those loose ends, and it might take forever but it will be fun. DC is trying to please us the Fans and they did a hell of a good job because I have not heard anyone complain about what this means for the future of DC comics. He left it open for so many possibilities that I am excited about. Also I don’t understand the whole Blackest Night VS. Sinestro Corps, one doesn’t have to be better than the other they are both great. And he didn’t promise it was going to be better than Sinestro, though for him it was probably more fun to write and see come to life.

So maybe you didn’t enjoy this and are not as sensitive as I am to all these “meaningless phrases” . Or you saw it all coming, well you might have know what was coming but not how or who. Editorial wise I think its rational and though you may not have enjoyed the journey from point A to point B what is next is exciting for any fan. Can’t wait to head into tomorrow.

Story: 5 - Excellent
