Ok just read this issue and Wow. Wow. wow. Johns and Reis really hit it out of the park. To tell you the truth, before I picked up this issue, I was feeling a little tired of the Blackest Night event. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved the event so far, but it just seemed like the story had been in a holding pattern for a while. Part of this is probably the skip month, all the related tie-ins, and that the event started on Free Comic Book Day last year, but for whatever reason, I just wanted this event to be over. After reading BN #7, I never want this event to end. The beginning of this issue started out a little slow with a few good moments but nothing amazing, then it all changed with a single two page spread. If you don’t know what I’m talking about go back and re-read the issue (Guy Gardner). Honestly, Ivan Reis draws in this issue one of the greatest two page spreads I have ever seen. I literally want to rip out the pages and put them on my wall. For my comic’s sake DC better make a poster of it. Fortunately, my love for the issue only grew from there. Amazingly Johns, is able to give so many characters and plot threads time in this issue, without the story feeling rushed of forced, that he needs to teach a class on how to write events. Most importantly, in this issue Johns explains the Guardian’s “great secret,” the importance of Earth, and gives GL readers a payoff for a character that he has been building to since he began writing the series. The last page just absolutely floored me. It was such a perfect culmination of Johns’ run and drawn so well by Reis that it too needs to be made into a poster. This issue has me really excited for not only BN #8 but also for the future of DC. Johns has been good for a while, but this issue actually tells me that Johns is getting even better and that is a scary thought.

    Ouchers.
  4. My therapist says I can’t handle too much win. So I’ll balance reading this book by rereading something awful writing like Ultimate X #1. xD!
