What was surprising here? That Kate didn’t truly hate her father? It was basically a summary of everything that’s happened since Detective Comics #854 narrated via Kate’s note to her father. This could be a valuable tool in catching up new readers I suppose, but wasn’t that the goal 12 issues prior? If it is necessary to catch up a new reader base after the first year of a comics existence/reexistance, could we at least call it what it is so I can spend my $2.99 forewarned. It’s called Secret Origins or Who’s Who in the DC Universe.
